I would have to say fear. They're most likely afraid of the other person's reaction, hence the reason why they lie.

I actually think of jealousy, or wanting attention.

It's not just a single factor that triggers one to lie, but a combination of others. Humans are only fallible.

I think people lie out of fear. Fear of getting caught, fear of losing the things they love, their job, etc etc.

The Devil? Rotfl.

This really is a stupid question, because it really is either one of them. Some people lie out of fear, some people lie out of shame, or jealousy, or pressure, or pleasure. It all depends on the matter. But the Devil...? Hmm... personally, I don't believe in the Devil, I don't believe in hell.

Fear of what consequences will happen if they tell the truth- of course, oftentimes, if they are caught, the consequences are a million times harder on them.

I dunno. I think it changes for everyone. I lie because of shame. Like, if my mom asks me what I had for lunch one day at school, I say nothing, instead of telling her I had junk food.

You really can't believe in God without believing in the Devil.

No, I don't.
But of course you can believe in god without believing the Devil. Why not?
Please, don't think that I'm going to have a conversation with you on religious beliefs now. You're straying from the original subject.

my best friend has always had a huge lying problem..I know she's a good person but that is DEF. her biggest flaw..SHe's explained it to me before...like sometimes she's in situations where she doesn't knwo what to do, so she'll make something up...usually to get people off her back or so they'll stop complaining. Or so her parents will allow her to do something...typically for her own benefit.

Anywho, to me, part of believing in God includes fear, fear of not getting into Heaven, & when you fear that, where's the other possible place you can go? Hell.

I know I lie to get around things that are in my way...like the fact that I wasnt allowed to talk on the phone after 9 o clock, then i would and i would lie about it. And I had to sleep to music but i wasnt allowed to so I would say i was singing if I got caught. But I guess deep down it was for fear of punishment. And now I lie to keep my family unaware because they overjudge people. Like if I told them Ive had sex they would cut me off. And also so they dont worry about me like i was beaten by this psycho and I dont want to tell them because they'll start getting all in my business trying to intervene and i hate that. So lots of reasons lol.

To me, it all comes down to fear. Shame? Fear of shame. Jealousy? Fear of others being better than you. Pressure? Fear of peers (of peer pressure), feer of stress. The devil..haha, fear of the devil! Or seriously, fear of hell, fear of getting jinxed?

Fear of honesty. Fear of consequences. Being truthful is a lot harder, therefore people fear that it is hard.

Fear of getting judged..that's a really big one.

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.
