indulgences were something you paid for in reperation for sins. instead of confession, you'd pay indulgences. it was simply because people were too lazy to say a few prayers or go out and help someone like we do now.

Hmm... I think the fact that money can simply "remove the temporal punishment that is associated with sin" is kind of strange to me. Money is suddenly important to religion?

However, I suppose that if they actually used the money to help those in need, perhaps that would be like charity, therefore it would be good. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. If they didn't, well...

You didn't read my post... Indulgence without penance is meaningless. The money isn't what wipes you clean, it is the good deed that comes with giving money. Is a donation less of a good deed just because money is involved?

i do not believe in god.
im the type of person who has to see it to believe it. i havent seen god, i havent had god talk to me, none of my prayers worked, and nothing good has happened in my life.

if god was really here with me, why did he "take" my mom away? why did i suffer from depression for so long? why is it that everything in my life has been negative and why is it that every single time something good happens, something else happens which makes that experience negative? sure, everything happens for a reason..but there no way that anyone could be "punished" for sins as severe as i have. and i havent even done anything.

there is no explaination for god. how can something no one sees make earth? how did adam and eve conceive so many babies of different races? if god truly exisists, why are there so many other religions claiming their gods are real?

also, how did mary have jeus without sex? miracle? i think not. its pretty much impossible to concieve without sperm. and if god is not human, what are so many people worshiping? air?

I cant explain why God allows certain things to happen. There are things even in my life ( I'm a Christian) that God allows to happen that I cant explain. When we go through difficult times it isnt always the result of sins. Sometimes those times are used to make our faith stronger and to mold us into stronger people. If you have a Bible I recomend reading the book of Job to help explain why God allows certain things to happen.

To answer some of your other questions. Just because there are mulitple religions worshiping other gods does not mean that God is not real. Not everyone is going to believe in God and he gives us a free will to choose to obey him or not.

So here we are!
Debate the existence of God and which one's right and stuff.

I'm atheist. Prove me wrong.
By prove, I mean state facts that have been backed up by solid evidence. I have yet to see that happen in all 70 combined pages of threads 1 & 2.

I am going to be totally honest with you! No one on the face of the earth is going to be able to prove the existance of God to you because we do not know if he exist for sure or not. Most people believe in God on mere Faith, nothing more...the only proof you will EVER have is when you die and go to Heaven and see God in the flesh.

I think people are scared so they all go to God for help.. some times he helps and every thing works out and some times not..

I disagree! Okay a lot of Christian do use God to save themselves but I am a Christian and I am NOT one of those people. I believe because I choose to believe not because I want to be saved from all my problems. God doesn't cure me of all my problems. Secondly, the quote is: "God helps those who help themselves" and I do believe in that quote. In my own opinion I do NOT fear my afterlife because I know I'll be in Heaven with God and theres nothing to fear but God. Because well, God IS Scary. lol...but yeah you get my point...

Oh and to answer the other guys Question on what Faith is...it's the believe in something, believing that it does exist without proof of it's existance <---that's my own definition, not looked up. I believe Faith isn't in just religion but in ones self...I am sure EVERYONE has Faith in something, not just religion.

People just do =] I mean I do believe God or a God does exist. Why you ask? Because I look at the earth and how perfectly made it is and all the nature and wonder how it got here and it always points towards God. I actually read an article on whether or not God exists and it talked of the earth, it was saying if we were just a little bit closer to the sun or something like that that we'd burn up and I'm talking like a inch more or less. But I guess the same Question your asking goes for believers in Evolution also because there is no "real" proof that Evolution really did happen cause if there was everyone would probably think twice about God creating the earth and everything. Like I said that's where Faith comes into play...Faith is not seeing but believing something you cannot see. And like I've stated before, just because you can't see something doesn't mean it's not there and I am sure your going to say - "Well, just because it isn't there doesn't mean it is there" true which is where Faith also comes in. You believe by Faith that thing does exist. What about all the other countries out there? Ones that you've never been to but just have heard of....you believe they exist right even though you've only seen pictures and heard from other people that it is there...same goes for God.
