Has anyone heard of this animated film? It's supposed to have Keanu Reeves in it, a Matrix-esque movie. It looks really good, but I've only seen one preview for it and it was on The Jacket's DVD.

OMG~ The Animation looks like the Spiderman series that had aired on MTV not-so quite a long time ago.

Way over a year ago. I remember seeing it long long ago.
I think I may have seen it first on the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind DVD, or maybe even a teaser for it on the Waking Life DVD.

It's a Richard Linklater film, so, I'm there. If you're interested in the style, it's been done by Linklater already. In Waking Life, Linklater followed his actors and filmed them on an 8mm digital camcorder (I believe that was the camera), and later, with a team of animators and artists, began to color over each cell of footage. So, it's like super artistic tracing. They filmed the actors and then painted over their live images.

I'm betting that A Scanner Darkly will follow in the footsteps of Linklater's Slacker, and Waking Life. However, instead of that seemingly chaotic documentary style shuffling of ideas and unfamiliar plotless characters and places, I suspect that A Scanner Darkly will inded be plot driven. It will be an interesting film I'm sure. But, like I said, if you're interested in the artistic style, check out Waking Life.

Hmm.. well I read the plot.. sounds interesting... I looked at the photos and it looks really cool, all vexeled-like.
Hmm, so based on the trailer, it looks really neat. I will probably go see it.

Hopefully it wasn't shelved or doesn't do well in theater because of the time span between the advertisements and it's release. Does anyone know about when it's coming out?

It will be hitting US theaters with a wide release on July 7th, 2006.
So, not far away at all. happy.gif

^ Wide release? I tried checking theatres all over Pittsburgh, and I couldn't find it playing anywhere else. My friend told me it's limited release. ermm.gif

Yeah. My bad.
I was under the impression that it would indeed be a wide release. I don't know if the plan changed, or if it was never intended to be one, but it isn't now. I had my chance to go see it in Chicago, but I was eating breadsticks. A friend of mine said it was awful, and I don't doubt for a second that he's probably right. I hope it wouldn't be though. I really do like Linklater, but he's starting to derail, ever since Waking Life. Give us some more Slacker/Dazed and Confused!

^ Breadsticks. XD Yeah, I know what you mean, though. I was under the impression that it would be in wide release until, well, came the release date and it wasn't showing anywhere.

It looks definately interesting.

But, is the whole movie done in that vector character form? Or was that just for the trailer?

Or live acting and then it's all computered over?

-shrug- I still want to see it.

We do, but they're downtown, and no one's really willing to drive me like 45 minutes away.

Then again, I can't find it listed there either.
