I went to buy gas today, because my tank was nearly empty and my dashboard was blowing up with warning lights. I put in just over 12 gallons (yes, the gas tank is anemic), and it cost $34.25. Why, I remember just last summer, $2.30 was a lot for gas, and now it's $2.80 a gallon.
Heck, I remember when I was a little kid, and gas was less than $1 a gallon. I used to watch my dad fill up the car, and I still remember the first time that the number of dollars was greater than the number of gallons. I remember when gas was 89¢ a gallon, and a bottle of soda was 75¢. And that was expensive. My dad used to always make me get cans, because they were only 25¢ a piece. I wanted to get the fruit punch soda stuff but that only came in bottles; I always had to settle for Mello Yello instead. I'm not even that old—I'm only 20—but events have been conspiring to make me feel old already, well before my time. I pay an arm and a leg for gas with a credit card—my own credit card. My cell phone bill comes to me. Several of my friends recently graduated—from college—and are already going to grad school or moving into their careers. My dad recently almost had a heart attack. Dads aren't supposed to have a heart attack until you're old. He's thinking about retiring, too. Dads aren't supposed to retire until you're old, either. And now my mum is having heart troubles, which shouldn't be happening for much longer. Things like that make me say, "Hey, when did I start to age? Shouldn't this not be happening for another few decades?" Oh, and look at the price of Lego sets. They're around $35 now, even for the bad ones. Man, when I was a kid, the only one I really wanted was the police station, and I never got that because it was $40 and that was way too expensive… |

Hah...its funny, because I'm not quite 18 yet and I feel old. =p I still can't believe I'm graduating high school in weeks and going to university this September...I drive...but yeah, I remember when gas was a LOT cheaper than it is now too. Here, we have litres and its Canadian dollars, but still...I remember it used to be $0.50/L...now its $1.20/L. Thats absolutely ridiculous.

motorcycle ftw :) got rid of my car...not worth the gas prices.
i remember on one of my family trips i saw gas for 89cents...man those were the days...i miss seeing those signs. but having a bike is alot more effective then a car now because of the prices. |

i'm 16 but i sure do remember when gas was 1.89 for reg.
and although i'm 16 i noticed a quite a jump in technology.........  like i remember the graphics for SEGA and now i look at systems of today---wow. big diffrence.

It's okay Michael. I'll make you feel ancient :D I'm only 17 and I feel old already. Hah. I still remember when gas was reallyreally freaking cheap in Taiwan. When it took less than 1000NT, approximately $31.25 to fill up a an entire tank to now, over 1500NT, approximately $46.88 to fill up a full tank. Damn.

Ehh I don't pay attention to gas prices, but I kinda know how you're feeling. I remember back when the Metrocard was still something new, and people usually used token when using the subway.
And, even though I'm only 18, I still do feel a bit old. My dad is retiring this year, a bit unexpected though. |

Yeah, that sucks Michael. It's insane how much things have changed over 20 years.
Things have changed A LOT since I was a kid too, and I'm only 17. I remember when cell phones had only one ring on them, and when CD players were popular. |

And I kinda remember tape players being around, and eventually cd players. Now it's mp3 players, I can't possibly imagine what's next. I remember when gas was around the $1.20 mark, that was waaaay back in the day, the 90's! The same time all the good old shows used to come on. T GGGGG IIII FFFFFFF. And 35 bucks for a damn Lego set?! I'm glad I got mine as a Christmas present, it was the best present I ever got as a kid. |

Gosh, it takes around $40.00 for my mom to fill up her tank with gas.
 I'm only fifteen, and I don't drive yet, so I can't quite accurately compare how it was years ago, 'cause I didn't care much to pay attention. I can only imagine how expensive things wil become as time goes on, and I'm older.

Oh god. I was talking to my cousin the other day (he's, like, 6-ish) and I was going through my tapes (cassette tapes) to find something. He asked me what they were and why I had so many of them and I just stared at him for a moment. When I told him they were music, he asked me why I didn't have CD's. I had a fun time trying to explain that they didn't exsist back when most of the tapes were made.
And then my little brother. Asked for a 100$ Lego set. I nearly died. >.<" Man, that was scary! It was motorized and everything... Yeah. I remember back when we had, uh, 2 by 2, 2 by 4 and 2 by 6 Legos. I had old, hand-me-down ones from... Way long ago. Maybe around 25 years? So yeah. =X I sound really old. Maybe I am. I'm always asked how old I am and, uh, a lot of people at my school thought I was a senior. I'm a freshman. =X 14-to-be-15-in-two-months. |

I remember when I was younger, like 10 or something, my mommy would send me to the grocery store with like a dollar to get some milk. I'd come back with change. I'm not sure how much it is now but it sure as hell isn't less than a dollar anymore.
Was it really a dollar in the 90's? Or am i remembering incorrectly? But I do know that milk costs much more than it did then. When I was in elementary school, the bus driver always said TGIF to this kid's mom. I always wondered what the hell they were talking about. I'm not sure if they were talking about the show though... |

Haha. I remember when I got my first portable CD player. It was big, black, and square. That piece of crap was my pride and joy, even though it had NO ANTI-SHOCK whatsoever and it ate batteries like cereal in the morning.
I remember when I got my first military ID card (at age 10). It made me feel so grown up. And I remember the first time rode a bike or rollerbladed around the block, and now I've got a car and driving? Time flies waaaaaaaaaay too quickly. |
