I just set up a new hosting account with Black Hawk Data Services and I'm trying to install wordpress and it wont freaking work! I've been at this all day. I've tried using fantastico and you think how can I go wrong there? Well no matter how I install any script including wordpress and b2 into my root directory it gives me a "500 internal server error." I tried installing wordpress through fantastico and manually. Nothing works. What the heck is going on?

I really need help and I'd prefer to talk to someone in real time using instant message. I've been using the wordpress support forums all day and its too slow to get responses.

Why don't you install it in a folder? If you do that you can easily (as in 2 easy steps) get wordpress as your main page.

If you have a .htaccess file in your root directory delete it because it effects wordpress too sometimes.

I installed it in a folder and it worked but how do I get it in on my index page?

I tried copying my wp index page into my root directory and I still get the 500 error.

Yes, I have a .htaccess. When I first got my account I deleted some other files that...I cant really think of the names but it looked like _vit_txt or somthing like that. I deleted all of them. On my other server it didn't cause a problem, I wasn't wrong to delete those was I?

Nope wordpress is sensitive. So I guess you have to delete what you need to.

To make it your main page.
1) Log into wp > click options > where it says BLOG ADRESS(make sure you do blog adress if you do the other one you can mess it up) change it from http://yourdomain.com/wpfoldername/ to http://yoursite.com

2) Lastyl in your index.php file , If you don't have one make one. And paste only this in it:
CODE
<?php define('WP_USE_THEMES', true); require('./wp/wp-blog-header.php'); ?>

change ./wp/wp-blog-header.php Only change the folder name. Mine is wp so its ./wp/ . So just change "wp" to your folder name.

well its working now, thanks for the help toya : wub.gif

now instead of making another thread I have another propblem, yea!
*note the sarcasim

Its no biggie but I installed the theme switcher and it works...sorta. I click a different theme and it takes me to a page that says "OK page has been moved here" and it has a link and when you click that one then it shows the new theme. I'd just like to cut out the middle man; the page it goes to before it takes you to the new theme.

Yea some of them do that. Mine doesn't do that for me accept you can't like choose the themes that show. sad.gif

If you still want it, here it is:
http://dramatiq.org/theme-switcher.txt
Just copy it and rename it theme-switcher.php

Basically the themes you don't want on the menu , take them out of your themes folder.

Wo0t, you got it too work. If you have a problem like this again, contact us via the helpdesk in the client are and we can install the script for you free of charge.

Alot of people have been getting 500 errors when Installing wordpress. I think it is because we installed a new MySQL secuirty feature on the new server that we did not have last time. I will look into it and repost when I find out what the problem is.

Thanks,
Garrett
