Japan obviously wasn't keen on surrendering.
I think two nuclear bombs was enough to give them a proverbial bitch slap and awaken them to the reality of the situation.

Exactly what evidence or rationale do you have to back that up?

yea i'm "honorable" japanese...
during WWII i went around China killing and raping civilians, including women and children
my country killed more chinese than hitler killed jews
why would the U.S. bomb us?

the japanese during WWII were way worse than hitler
why isn't it stressed our American textbooks?
because Americans are racist < hard truth

You're Japanese, you're stressing that the Japanese were more worse than Hitler during WWII, AND you want it in American textbooks. Sounds almost like you're bragging...

To answer this question, I asked myself: Was it really necessary for Japan to attack Pearl Harbor? Was it necessary for the Kamikazes to kill themselves and take the lives of other people?

That's why I said yes. If not who knows what would have happened.
You know either way some people would have complained about it. If we didn't I'm sure people would be asking years later, "why didn't American bomb them then?"

On the contrary, in this case, two wrongs did make a write. We saved TONS of our own troops and a little revenge can be good for ya some of the time.

yeah big deal so the japanese slaughtered some chinese... do you realize how many races have/are being slaughtered that you are unaware of? there are have been massive racial purges over the years, but the reason hitler receives so much attention is because of the astounding way he was able to rise to the top of a chaotic society and encite such a overwhelming sense of nationalism and unite ppl in a way only few have been able to do. its not so much about what happened but how. im not saying the japs who did the killings should not be condemned but i think it was the way the holocaust was carried out that draws such attention.

That's not even close to being justification. The revenge idea has been rehashed previously in this thread, and it never really panned out. Alternatives to a military commitment have also been proposed, and were also proposed at the time. Furthermore, there's still the point that the Japanese were never really given time to fully surrender, if they desired—which, according to some sources in the government, seemed likely, given the intervention of the Russians in the war.

Ah, and many of these would have been valid points if it were, back then. But the fact of the matter is that it is in our past, and that we did drop the bombs on Japan, and that I do believe we made the right decision.

Actually more people would have been killed if they sent people in. Are we just going to let an injustice go undone. We were harboring the Japanese until they attacked us at Pearl Harbor. So, what are you going to do?

not really. many of the 200,000 something deaths were contributed by radiation poisoning, which wouldn't have happened if we didn't drop the bombs.

if we didn't drop the bombs whose to say that the war wouldn't have ended as quickly... what if japan decided to drop bombs on us, and kill 200,000 of our own people... We asked them to surrender sevral times. for some reason they had the balls to say that they wouldn't. They must have had a reason to want to stay in the war. We wanted them out, we asked them to leave, they said no, so we showed them who the boss was. :O!

didn't we bomb them twice... if we did, good for us *big grin*

Look, truth is we don't know what was going to happen. Yes, i know it was brought up a couple pages back, but what was said before can't prove anything. Yes they did loose 210,000 people, but they did not surrender. They may ahve made plans, but they never accually told us before we dropped the bomb. Truth is, they should have surrendered when we asked them too.... they didn't therefore, whether they were making plans or not. We should have bombed them.

example to help you understand what usa was doing:
You(USA): Hey, don't jump me again or i'll kick your ass... I want an apology
Me(JAPAN: Make me...
You(USA): Listen i will seriously KICK YOUR ASS...
Me(JAPAN): Make me...
You(USA): ok, you asked for it! *kicks your ass*
Me(JAPAN): Ouch sad.gif Well, I was going to stop...

I hope this helps you understand...

The Japanese were Imperialistic. They thought they were divine beings. Whose to say they wouldn't have stopped until they were all dead? We took care of the problem quickly and efficiently. Maybe that's why the Jap's have small knobs. Hmm. HAHA. Just messing around. I love small knobs. I have a small knob. If you want I'll take a picture of it. Haha.

i think the bombings were entirely necessary. the japanese were killing way more people than the nazis ever did and with more cruelty. isn't it funny how they surrendered less than a week after the 2nd bombing? these japanese were willing to fight hard. invading wouldn't have done it. they had to resort to some kind of new technology: atomic bomb.

Well yeah it was wrong to bomb people in japan back them, but wasn't it wrong to attack our ship. But if this war didn't happen, where would we be today?
