Everyone is cutting slacks for the illegal immigrants simply because they risk their life to cross the border for their family. And once they are here they work the "low paying-back breaking" jobs.

What about the legal immigrants? We had to wait YEARS to get the paperwork to come to america, pay for our own airplane tickets, pay for our paperwork, wait ANOTHER (minimum of) FIVE years to pay for MORE paperwork to get registered as a citizen and get naturalized. These paper work are not $20 or $30, I'm talking about $300 a person. Legal immigrants work low paying jobs as well. My mom works in the supermarket for $8.00 an hour. We have to send money back to Vietnam to support our extended family. We immigrated here with the same reason as the illegal immigrants--to help out the family.

Basically legal and illegal immigrants are in the same situation. However legal immigrants have to wait and pay out of their own pockets, while illegal immigrants just run their way in and have babies (note that was just a hyperbole). I dislike how legal immigrants are overlooked :-/ and how they make illegal immigrants sound like maiden in distress. They aren't the only ones suffering!

Hmm, that's partly true. My parents waited ten years and another seven to get naturalized once in the US. It cost thousands of dollars. My parents both worked two jobs for MINIMUM wage for years before we got where we are now. I understand where you're coming from. I, too, am having a hard time with people exaggerating their sympathy for "poor" illegal imigrants.

But you know what, the sad thing about them is that their majority will never have the chance to rise in this society unless they somehow become citizens. While our parents have the opportunity to land good jobs, many illegals cannot (though a few have been said to do very well). They don't come over for the heck of it, they had reasons to risk their lives the way they did with illegal crossing. A lot of times, those reasons are justified... Look at the Vietnamese after the fall of Saigon.

The thing people have to know is that not only illegal immigrants contribute to our economy, they also use our resources. They don't work but get nothing in return; they do, so don't glorify them. They don't have to pay taxes, but get healthcare, food assistance, federal aid to school... etc. Even if they do pay taxes, the Center for Immigration Studies reports that illegals use $2,700 more for public services than they pay for taxes. In the same report (2004), it is estimated that they cost the federal government $10 Billion per year, this figure has yet to take cost to LOCAL governments into account. Of course to be fair, those that do pay taxes cannot have any of it back for retirement like us.

Money issue? Honey, money makes the world go round. You have no idea what you're talking about do you? These people CHOSE to cross the borders and CHOSE danger for work, which equals MONEY. And you call me money hungry *laughs*.

They have to take responsibility for their own actions. If you want to "give them a chance", why don't you give the HOMELESS Americans a chance?

The only excuse for them you can come up with is that they can't pay taxes, and I when I ruled out that poor excuse, you turn me into a money grabbing monster.

I've been paying taxes for the last four years and my parents three times that long, so if I need to use a public service, I'm entitled. But when people go free-riding public services and haven't paid a dime back, that's called CHEATING.

It's nice that you can afford to "give them a chance", but college students like me who eat instant noodles for lunch, take the 1 and half hour bus ride to school to save every penny, and work three part time jobs to be able to stay in school and help out the family, I can't afford to be as giving. Forgive me if I sound money-hungry, but I think you can see why.

You think illegal immigrants have it hard? How about legal immigrants who have to work their ass off, too?

Aside from money, the issues of safety and abiding the law are of import.

And last, but not least, Illegal Immigrants ARE NOT THE ONLY HARD WORKING PEOPLE IN AMERICA. If you do think that, then you live a sheltered life and do not have grounds to make any substantial opinion.

Anyways i know for a fact some illegal immmigrants ONLY come to the united states looking for a better life. Running from poverty & Dictatorships, all most immigrants want is a job and papers so they can provide their families with a chance to strive in this great country. I am cuban and i know what its like in the situation of illegal immigrants my parent were illegal at one point the only reason they left their motherland was because there was no food and no money even with jobs and all theur dictator was a d*ck.

Some immigrants just want to get drunk lets face it there are always the sour grapes in a batch of sweet ones. There are actually many immigrants that just choose to live off wealth fair, why? BECAUSE THEIR LAZY and have the woman working in tomato feilds half their life so that they can buy beer and get drunk.


In the end immigrants should in my opinion be given "trial periods" in order to see what they do with their time in the us, before making them legal.

Sure, quite a number of people have the tendency to single out Hispanics, but my simple question was to point out that no one thus far have said anything about Hispanics ONLY in this thread. Even if somebody had singled out Hispanics with racist intentions, the phrases "you people" and "ppl of CB" clearly meant to accuse everyone who replied, with the ridiculous exception of himself, of being racist, which is completely unfounded. This is a debate, not a game of pointing fingers at who's racist. In fact, this thread was going just fine until someone pulled the race card. Bottomline. If an illegal immigrant is stealing your job, you are a dumb@$$, and don't deserve the job.
If you live in America, at a young age you had the opportunity to get an education.
Many illegal immigrants did not have that opportunity so they deserve the lowpaying labor jobs more than any american.
