I usually don't say anything. Sometimes if the sneeze is really funny, I'll say gesundheit.

I usually say bless you or gesundheit or nothing.

It's weird when people sneeze like 6 times in a row and there's an obligation to say something.

Did you know the "god bless you" thing started during the Black Plague? People were dying too fast to be given proper burial rites so the Pope started the "god bless you" thing everytime somebody sneezed.

that's what my teacher told me.

Did you know the "god bless you" thing started during the Black Plague? People were dying too fast to be given proper burial rites so the Pope started the "god bless you" thing everytime somebody sneezed.

that's what my teacher told me.

I read about that in a book but it said that sneezing occurred in the final stages of it and they said it because they knew the person was about to die.

I usually just say bless you on occassion. I rarely say it to strangers.
When someone coughs, I usually mutter, "oh thanks," or "great," or "how wonderful," because they usually near me and don't cover their mouth _dry.gif

I say, "Bless you" mostly. I admit if a person doesn't cover their nose I'll sometimes give them a, "Damn you I got your sneeze all over me" look. No one ever picks up on it though. _dry.gif
