I don't really have an opinion on this. As long as the smoke smell doesn't get on my clothes, I'm good.

I don't necessarily think smoking is stupid..

What's STUPID is when people already have cancer and they're walking outside wheeling their IV bag out to smoke. I've seen it happen.

Yeah, but my father died of emphysema from years of smoking at a fairly early age, so it's not like smoking isn't harmful.. It just doesn't affect everyone the same way.

^ that depends on the frequency and the strength of the cigarette. i've been smoking on and off for over a year, and i dont suffer any ill effects whn i go for a couple of weeks without a cigarette. but then, i dont smoke all that often. a couple of times a week socialy, and that about it.

imo anyone that smokes is a dumbass. and don't give me stuff like "maybe he just made a bad mistake in life." cuz after all taht convincing he got NOT to smoke he still smokes like a dumbass. they deserve to get cancer cuz they're fuking stupid.

//edit. ok fine some of u think that not all people who smoke are stupid. i didnt mean it like that. i meant that people who smoke are stupid for choosing to smoke.

The inherent judgement of this thread reflects a superficial treatment of this issue. Rather than attempting to understand the nature of nicotine addiction, this topic serves to validate bashing people who do smoke. How helpful is that? The lack of constructive intent in this post serves to demonstrate why so little progress has been made to educate people as to the inherent dangers of smoking. With judgements such as this, smoking becomes a shameful act that is moved into the closet.

Who are you to condemn the actions of others in such a manner? Maybe you deserve to get cancer because of the judgements you cast.

I could be wrong, but I think he was trying to say that you telling Corey that maybe he deserves getting cancer for the judgements he makes about people who smoke, is like you saying that people who make bad judgements deserve cancer. Which sounds hypocritical.

And I know that you only directed your post to Corey, but the above is just an example. ermm.gif

Alright, so I agree with you that smoking is bad/isn't good for your health and all that raspy sh*t. This strongly reminded me of DARE though, because our officer reminded us not to call someone stupid for smoking because obviously you wouldn't want to start anything right? rolleyes.gif
Use "I" statements instead of "you"/"they" statements mmkay.

oh no, i think i'm about to agree a bit with him.
i mean, most people are brought up and told not to smoke and warned of the health problems it will DEFINITELY cause. those who were pressured to smoke don't have the strength to repel this "peer pressure". the action of picking up the first cigarette, lighting it, and then picking up another one is in itself "stupid", considering that everyone, or 99% of people know what happens when you smoke.

Yes but see you said the ACTION OF. That does not mean the person is stupid. The action might be stupid, perhaps the person is making a stupid decision/action, HOWEVER the person still does not have to be stupid. It's not right to make such an absolute statement as the one he made. Plus, there are TONS of things that people do despite knowing the consequences of doing so. Does that make them all stupid? No.

judging from the edit, it seems like he meant the action of it, but didn't have the mental capacity to find the right words.

But I still feel as if he's calling the people stupid still, whether calling everyone who smokes stupid or calling those who smoke stupid because they chose to smoke. It's the same to me? When someone makes a stupid choice it doesn't make them a stupid person. It was just that, a stupid choice.

I think people who smoke are well aware of the risks at hand.

Anyone watch "Supersize Me" with Morgan Spurlock? In one of the interviews, they talk about a man who went up to a woman who was smoking in a public restaurant and heckling her for it - where she just said "Mind your own business, I'm trying to quit."

They probably do know the risks. Addiction is hard.
