Plants are not conscious, intelligent sentients, so while it's true that they are alive, it's not cruel to eat them.

Weird, though. I could've sworn his name was Amy. Did you get a name and gender change, by any chance?

Well if you are christian or catholic:

"Thou shall not kill"

Killing plants is still killing, so you broke the 10 commandments

This arguement is rather weak. =/

I believe it means, "Thou shall not kill people"? _dry.gif

& Plus every Catholic or Christian would be going to hell if that statement alone were true; it's nearly impossible that there's a Christian out there who hasn't stepped on a bug or ran over a small animal while driving. o_0

Well, I don't understand why Foie Gras is being banned......Animal Cruelty?

Well, I am ready to be flamed so feel free:

Since when were we so 'sensitive' about animal cruelty?

1 simple question : Do you eat meat? If you do, you are participating in animal cruelty. Those animals were born to serve one purpose : our food. They are slaughtered when they are 'nice and meaty' and they are shipped around the world into markets, and you, the customer, is buying that. All those innocent animals being killed...... Is that animal cruelty? Don't think you can deny that.

If you are a vegetarian, that does not apply to you. But another question : Are plants living things? Don't think you can deny that again. So animal cruelty is a 'no-no', but 'plant cruelty' is ok......the logic doesnt fit here. So cutting the plants, picking them from the ground and killing them is ok, but killing animals are not ok. Can someone explain?

If we seriously care so much about our animals and plants, what the h*** will we eat?

I believe we can only accept the fact this world is not fair (since when was it fair? If you want examples feel free to ask) and animal cruelty is inevitable. This world is not an Utopia, so there is no such thing as 'Perfect'. This world isn't those fairy tale worlds where we can live in harmony with animals and somehow not kill any of them and still have food (But they kill plants! This is a part where many forgets).
I am not a cold-blooded person who doesn't care about anything. It is just that I believe we should start to get realistic here and accept the truth.
Niez_cho : Are you serious? Damn I love eating those things, but are you only talking about citysuper? Over there, French fois gras are not imported anymore but they are starting to import Hungarian ones, so I guess I can still eat it.

Haha you're cool.

I don't think the point is whether or not killing plants are cruel or not, really.

I guess people use the theory of evolution, Survival of the Fittest, to say we have the stronger genes, we will survive over the animals and such. It's like, now that you have things easily, you're caring about the emotions of the animal. Like you're giving yourself new problems (after worrying about eating, you worry about their emotions).

I don't have a point of view for animal cruelty though. I've seen some videos of how they treat animals before and after the process of slaughter and it's pretty horrid D:

Define what cruelty is first.

i think it's natural to slaughter one another since we're part of the "living things". Plants do kill others, do you know that? The world is like the survival of the fittest. Since we're dominant and "mature" enough to determine our future and how we want to shape other creatures. Like ... preserving endanger animals, save animal's life so they can reproduce ... then we eat 'em.

The whole idea of animal/ plant cruelty is base on people's emotions and heart that leads to societies issues.
