hi all,

i was browing through my old site before i made cb... and it had a forums, where the equivalent of cb's "the lounge" wasn't moderated. i thought that was a good idea, and leaning towards implementing it here.

dont get me wrong. moderating is good and all, but sometimes it can really discourage members from participating. for example, there seems to be a trend where staff members close topics if the topic was talked about before, even if it's been over a year. this might be good in that it promotes organization, but in reality, it really kills the participitory aspect of the forums. sometimes things need to be revisted and retalked. its part of everyday life.

if we continue on like this, where topics get closed because it revists an older topic, sooner or later, there will be nothing to talk about. period.

so. what do you think? should we let the lounge be completely unmoderated by staff members? or should be do a compromise, where staff members are only allowed to move topics elsewhere, but cannot close the topics here?

let me hear from you. staff members may also contribute. =)

would hate threads really promote createblog as a good community though? i understand club threads and stuff like that that will let members interact with each other...but, hate threads?

okay, i admit that they're fun. i admit that they're good for laughs, too. but, you know what happens with threads like that, dont' you?

^ Me and a lot of members that have been here long enough to witness the "Who do you hate from cB and why" threads know exactly what it is that will happen.

i dont see what the harm in them was.

Me neither. Whether the mods like it or not, there are "clubs" hiding (I'm in one ph34r.gif). Look at the sigs. Legion, Pegion, Region, CB Ninjas, etc etc. I think it contributes to the community.

Actually, clubs might promote CB. I know some people are worried about it's activity. Maybe creating new memories with new and old members will help bring CB back together as long as the clubs aren't too exclusive.

Well I don't think it'd be very smart since a german judge reached the verdict that the moderator of a forum is responsible for any harmful content posted by members.

The article in Dutch: http://tweakers.net/nieuws/42180/
The article in German: http://www.r-archiv.de/article2379.html
If there's a need for translation just ask.

^I can't understand the article, but I can assure you that the moderators are still here to make sure harmful content doesn't get posted.. The point is that some of the silly rules aren't going to be enforced as strictly to allow things to loosen up a bit.

Most forums I know have subforums called "spamcorner" or "bullshit 4 life" wouldn't that be a good idea?
They're more like slowchat topics with some brainless talking going on.

I learn Dutch at school. It's sort of obligatory. I'm from Belgium that's why... ik hou niet van nederlands maar ik hou van nederlandse mensen? Please correct me!!!

I've seen that as well, and I don't see anything wrong with the idea necessarily.. Perhaps the sandbox is what needs to be revamped. *shrug*

I STILL think, however, that conversation needs to be encouraged rather than punished in the Lounge. It should be a friendly place. _smile.gif

edit// LOL Jerome I just realized you typed "Neverland" and at first I thought you misspelled it..

People don't really have discussions at cB as it is. How is making a huge spam topic going to change that? No one is going to actually "discuss" anything anyway.

The correction: tongue.gif Ik houd niet van Nederlands maar ik houd van Nederlandse mensen.
So i guess you're from wallonie since it's not your native language?
Do you know the tv show "10 voor taal"? The Flemish seem to be better at Dutch than the Dutch themselves. (because they usually win).

It's not that nothing has changed. It wasn't established that The Lounge will be completely unmoderated; topics will still be closed, spam will still not be tolerated. It seems to me that more topics are being closed now because there are more useless topics being made (overall). Inside jokes don't mean anything to anyone not involved so therefore, they will be closed. And I've seen many like that recently. As Micheal has been repeating everywhere, discussions will be allowed to go slightly off topic... that's it until I can think of anything else to say.
