____ r + 3
r+9)r^2+12r+36 _____ r^2+9r _______ 3r+36 ________3r+27 _____________9 Answer: r+3+9/r+9 OR r+3 R (remainder) 9 Basicly, how many times will r (of r+9) go into r^2, it should be r right? Then multiply r by r+9, you get r^2+9r, subtract it from r^2+12r, you get 3r+36...and so on. I would like someone to check my work for me though, I haven't done this for quite a while already. |

but my teacher FORCES us to use long division to solve thiss.
and if we dont use it on the quiz/test, she'll take off all credit. |

^ Yeah, that's pretty dumb. I had to use long division in grade 10, and only learned synthetic division in Math 11 when we did all the stuff about remainder theorems.

I have to agree that synthetic division pwns long division. Long division is a freakin waste of time!

Haha, okay, I'm good with it now.
I use synthetic division now because I told my teacher that it's a lot easier, so she lets me. :) She only taught us synthetic division with variable squares without conjugates. So then I decided to teach myself during class because we were just doing worksheets, and she was like "Good girl, Christine!" :) Sally, go study. |
