So, I'm having problems with my laptop..

It doesn't play any sounds or, any audio in general. When I go to the control panel to the "Sounds and Audio Devices" it says that there are no audio devices. I don't get that because it has a built in speaker and it hasn't been playing anything recently. Any help?

Is it a new laptop, or was it recently reformatted? If so, it's possible that the drivers aren't installed.

It wasn't recently formatted, but it has been. In 2004. I believe...haha. IF the drivers aren't installed, how..do I fix it? When it was formatted though, there was a recovery disc used to get all the stuff back..

Drivers are usually available on the manufacturer's website. If you know your model number, you should be able to find it easily.

Check your device manager though, just to make sure it's a driver problem and not something else.

start -> control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager

Look for any yellow question marks or exclamation points. If there are, it's off to the manufacturer's website _smile.gif

Hm... strange. What do you see under Sound, video, and game controllers (in Device Manager)?

Maybe you don't have an audio codec. You can google it up, mine was free. I'll try to find the link

^ Hm... It doesn't explain why it's not listed in his Sound and Audio devices, though. Still, worth a try happy.gif

I think it does have an audio codec? It recently stopped playing anything.

Under Sound, Video and game controllers is says

-audio codecs
-legacy audio drivers
-Legacy Video capture devices
- Media control devices
- SigmaTel C-Major Audio
- SOny MPEG RealTIme encoder board
- Video codecs.
