QUOTE(uninspiredfae @ May 24 2004, 3:27 PM) I second that. What's good about the American name? Even before Bush, some countries already bore ill will against American life style. Yes but back then it wasn't most of Europe. |

QUOTE(ComradeRed @ May 24 2004, 3:42 PM) We stopped giving them lots of money in the 60s... But we were still helping their economy and we were (are) one of their biggest trade partners. Like I said, ever since that Euro... *tsk tsk*. Not that the Euro is a bad thing, I think it's great, except for that it gave most of Europe the idea of forming 'opinions' about America. |

Right, but after the WWs we gave them a HUGE sum of money to help restore the damages. After a while they got back on their feet became a worthy trade partner. |

QUOTE(uninspiredfae @ May 24 2004, 4:08 PM) Right, but after the WWs we gave them a HUGE sum of money to help restore the damages. After a while they got back on their feet became a worthy trade partner. They would've rebuilt their economy anyway without our aid, it would've just taken longer. Moreover, they were a viable trading partner right out of WWII. Most of France and England were still intact. Spain had a stronger eceonomy after the war. Italy likewise was mostly in tact. The only NATO country to have been utterly devastated by WWII was West Germany. |

QUOTE(EmeraldKnight @ May 24 2004, 4:17 PM) How does all this pertain to Bush? This is quite a tangent you two are taking.. I like tangents. You can take the slope of a tangent line to the curve by finding the first derivative, dy/dx, of said curve. Discuss. |

So going back to my original idea. We gave them a helping hand, and they took it. What have they done for us that can tantamount our 'help'? Now they're being insolent. (joking). |

Minda, be nice to me... ![]() The Tax Cuts didn't hurt the economy, it was the massive raises in spending. An economic theory is only as good as the time frame it's applied to. This is the global economy. Keynesianism doesn't work any more. The War on Iraq was undoubtedly bad for teh economy, because of the instability it caused in the Mid East and with oil. War takes productive goods that could have been spent on capital improvements and destroys them... bad for economy. It only creates an illusion of temporary economic benefit because of patriot fervor. |
