i'm reading a book called Stargirl. it's by Jerry Spinnelli. my teacher read it to us in fifth grade, but i don't recall anything, really. but my english teacher assigned it to us. today was the first day she assigned it. we had to read to the end of chapter five (pg. 26), although we are aloud to read farther. but, by choice i'm on chapter nineteen (pg. 100). lol. yeah... it's really good. i forget how it ends and i'm REALLY curious. i'd suggest it to you if you haven't read it already.

I'll review everything I've read for school this year

Fahrenheit 451 (summer reading) - Great book. It's amazing how Guy changes so much by meeting Clarisse and Faber.

The Bean Trees (summer reading) - I didnt even get to the third chapter. Didnt like it yawn.gif

I Have Lived A Thousand Years - This book was awesomely awesome! It's about the Holocaust (it's also a true story. The author was the girl in the book) and how a girl and her family (well most of em') survive. It made me cry.

Of Mice and Men - Pretty good book. Not my favorite but Steinbeck portrayed Lennie and George well.

Romeo and Juliet - I am not going to be the person to diss Shakespeare because you just dont diss him wink.gif . It was good but I found Romeo very annoying and Juliet a bit pathetic mellow.gif

Catcher in the Rye - This book has its moments but I found Holden annoying at times. Though I admire Salinger for writing this. Can you imagine what people must of thought of this book when it came out? It was definately a reality check for alot of people. And a good book.

The Odyssey - Geesh. We havent finished it yet but I am bored out my mind. It's definately alot easier to understand than Romeo and Juliet. It's just.. so... boring.

Long Way Down - Nick Hornby.

I recommend it to anyone looking for a humourous..er..different book to read.

I recommend any Nick Horby book for that matter.

Rachel- I loved The Stranger. Nabokov is also a very good author (Lolita; Pale Fire; Invitation to a Beheading).

Nicki- Ayn Rand's philosophy seems much more grounded and extreme than that of the author of The Giver. Although she is a brilliant writer, her flawed arguments concern me.

Oh, definitely. The Giver was much more juvenile, but that was to be expected. I wouldn't say I agreed with Rand necessarily, but it was intreesting nonetheless.

-The Stranger (Albert Camus or somethin) It was allright. It questions our existence/rationality in the universe, it was cool to think about.

Too...much...symbolism. pinch.gif Not that that's bad, but just...I don't know. I loved the story. really. I read some of Camus' essays. I can't decide if I like him or not.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke's a pretty good novel with very cool and oldish English lingo which is whoa, brilliant. And I started reading Ptolemy's Gate again. The Alex Rider series are awesome too.

Right now, I'm reading Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov. I'm not that far in the book because it's not mine. It's my darling's and I can't bring a book home with a young girl's legs on the cover. I read a few pages once every week or two because I don't exactly visit him just to read his books.

It's quite interesting though.

I hated Heart of Darkness. I had to read that senior year *shudders at the memories* I should go back and read it again to see if I still hate it. Same thing with Their Eyes Were Watching God. But yeah, after you read Heart of Darkness, you should read Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe if you haven't yet. Things Fall Apart is Achebe's response, if you will, to Conrad.

Currently Reading:

1984 - Yes, still. I haven't been able to make time to finish it.

Civil War - I usually love epics but this one makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a fork. It's horrible. And designed to resist reading. But yet I have to read it anyway. Oy vey.
