So today I tried to get on the computer .. everything goes fine.. then that black screen comes up before the login screen for windows xp -- after, the computer restarts. so i figured oh i just needed to restart the computer again. but it does it again. again. again. again.

so i try safe mode. it does the same thing. restarts

i'm sad :( i have this copy of the windows xp cd i tried to use to like.. reboot or do that recovery thing but the menu thing doesnt pop up when i turn on the computer. i don't know man.

Are you sure your computer is set up to boot from the CD ROM drive first? You might have to change that setting in your BIOS.

The same thing happened to me, but I got mine to be fixed.
The problem could be your video adapter.

Depends on what bios you have. Usually it's like F8, F12 or del.
