Why do you want to know? I don't think you can learn how to play basketball over the net. Maybe you should try Google or something..

You need to condition first, build up running and arm muscles.

OFFENCE:
Shooting: Balance yourself. Your legs should be shoulder width apart, and a bit bent. Line your shooting hand up with the lines on the basketball, and put your other hand in a T position to guide it. Keep your eyes on the backboard, that's what you're aiming for. Bend your knees, and spin the ball with the tips of your fingers.

Lay up: (Applies if you are right handed. If you're left handed, use viceversa) Hold the ball to your left side, with your right foot infront of your left. Take a step with your left foot, and then bring your right foot up while you push the ball with your right hand, guided by your left. Simply think of your right hand and leg with strings attatched, when you shoot with your right, your right leg also goes up. Aim for the bottom right corner of the backboard.

DEFENCES: When playing on a team, decide which defence to use.
Man on man defence: Each player takes another player of the other team. The main strategy used is to make sure at all times defending the other team, that you are between the player you are guarding and the basket.

Zone defence: Basically, when playing defence, all five players take up a zone. Usually it is three near the net, and two near the key. When anybody comes into your zone, you are responsible for guarding that person. In defeating zone defence (if you are playing offence against a team who is playing zone defence) pass the ball around the defence zones, and as the defenders try to guard you, try to find a hole in the defence zones so you can go in and shoot.

Im currently trying out for the basketball team.. so yeah. Hope that's what you were looking for.. if you want specific tips on specific things you are having trouble with, just ask _smile.gif

You bring your LEFT foot up when you do a righty lay up.

...
You push off with the left foot. But your right foot is the one that actually goes up with your hand while you push the ball off your hand.

The easiest way to catch on is to probably watch as much basketball as you can, then once you feel comfortable with the sport find someone who plays regularly and have them work with you on the fundamentals: passing, shooting, dribbling, defensive shuffles. it'll take a lot of time and commitment but you can do it if you stay dedicated, good luck :)
