Ha, it's like that in college, except you don't really get in trouble for anything.

I noticed though, a few racial things, because my college is in the deep south...the border between Georgia and Florida.

Blacks (As apparently is racially correct now, it's changed. I was suprised to when I was recieving letters from the AP office stating I needed to change 'African American' in my stories) tend to gather in social cliques, and stick together, always. They are loud and rambunctious to the point of being noticed, but not to the point of causing trouble.

While near threatening in demeanor on the outside, I've found them to be quite friendly up close, regardless of my race (white). I've also noticed the predominate white population at my college to cause the most trouble, with the smallet (hispanic) population to cause the least.

Not once, however, have I seen any member of faculty or staff interfere with the student body, part of it due to most of us being mature enough to be kept within reason, and those who are not are chastised by their peers, rather than an overseer, which is different than high school.

Even though I live in NYC, the "diverse" city, I did notice that a bit. My old school was about 35-45% black, and I found that the ones getting in trouble were almost treated like friends by the dean.

I don't know, it also might've just been multiple visits.

Yeah that happens to us in our school. There's one teacher who's racist and the rest are scared that they'd be called racist.

Personally, I don't really feel our school is that way, just that most of us don't curse around teachers (or try not to). whistling.gif Everyone gets busted for cursing loudly, doing bad things, fighting, but sometimes the teachers either don't see it, or thye just choose to overlook it. Despite the fact that a ton of the people in our nerdy school are goody goodies, we actually have a ton of fights in the hall and little mobs running around everywhere. I guess the teachers in our school are just lazy.

I know what you mean. I live in central florida. I go to a private school now, so its different. But when I went to public school, there were certain people that I always thought the teachers were afraid of. Mostly black guys. This was mostly with female teachers... I guess they were really afraid. But it wasnt always just them, it was almost just as many hispanics and white kids. Florida is very diverse.

Not necesarily a bad thing. But its getting really bad is south florida. Not that diversity is bad, but certain parts of south florida, some road signs are in spanish, not english. But according to a friend that just moved from there, their public schools are TERRIBLE, due to the schools/teachers having no control.

Ugh, I hate racism. At my school just because the cafeteria workers are Mexican's they give extra goods to those who speak the language and are Mexican. I have nothing against Mexicans, but that's just being racist. My Texas History teacher is racist, the only race is her class who she doesnt yell, "shut your mouth" is to african-americans. I am not racist, but I really do hate rasicm. _unsure.gif

You speak as if...
Black people aren't people...but wild animals that live in the jungle..and you're explaining their feeding habits, or behavior or mating technique.

Not quite. More speaking in a formal, matter of fact manner.

Would you preffer me to lighten it?

"The black people at my college, which seem to like that more than African Americans now, tend to stick together, socialize together, and are pretty loud. But they don't cause trouble."

Didn't mean to offend, it's just how I'm used to writing, (Working for the Press). Again, if you read on, that wasn't my intent at all. I'm sorry you came to that conclusion...

one time we had like 12 cops at the school for no reason... the kids fough at a different neighborhood that same day and someone got shot!

I think the worst we've had is arson (we actually had arson, right after that high school down the street had arson twice), adn some kid named Demetrius being arrested for selling weed. I'm wondering who would even buy that crap.

Yeah I live in the country as well. The teachers are also afraid to punish not only blacks but anyone non-white or anyone who is muslim or hindu because they don't want to be considered prejudice. They're the ones who press upon the equality stuff. If they're not racist and the person did something wrong, they shouldn't be afraid to punish them should they? I think being afraid to punish them is a sign of racism.

It's not like that here in the city. There's a variety of all race and culture. Do the teachers see these stuff that the african american's do? Or maybe they have already tried to do something but they're just like that and won't stop cursing, etc?

I agree, people are afraid that race will somehow become a factor. I hate how people do that. My teacher told us about this girl who stood up to cops and whatever. It was ridiculous. The girl ILLEGALLY used her mom's reduced fare MetroCard, the girl KNEW it was illegal and did it anyway. Then, when she got caught she was like, "you're only doing this because I'm hispanic" and blah blah blah. That's just such bullsh*t. She committed a crime and she knew it, they were not arresting her because she's hispanic, it was because she committed a damn crime. Race was NOT the issue.

I live in NYC too but I don't see the deans and some black people being friendly as a race thing. The deans and the certain black students they're friendly towards actually are good people, they may get in trouble some times for cutting class or being late, but they really are nice people. That's probably why the deans and them are chummy.

i went from one of the most diverse high schools in the state to one of ... much much less variety.

The 2 black kids that go to our school now are very well behaved and act as decently as any other one of thier peers, but i HAVE heard of teachers being afraid to punish ethnic kids due to accusations of racial bi-ism (sp?)

anyway, if that IS the true reason that the teachers are not punishing the kids, that is most definatley stupid and wrong. people need to get over this race issue.

that kinda happens in our school.. except the teachers arent really scared because the kids mostly say it as a joke. and if girls or boys get in trouble theyre like "thats sexist!" haha. whatever the situation is.
