QUOTE(miss barnes @ Apr 30 2005, 2:01 PM) i think its a good idea but, a bad one too its good because if kids do wanna have sex they at least have 1 form of protection its bad because then it night persuade kids to have sex since they have condoms Who is it going to persuade? If your commited to having sex, then you'll do it reguardless if a condom is available or not....if you really don't want to, then you won't. For those few people that are inbetween and don't know what they want to do, it is usually because of peer pressure...NOT pressure because of an available condom. |

not many teenagers are going to have sex simply because they have a condom, and not many teenagers are going to not have sex simply because they don't have a condom
it's kinda like, giving cars airbags. that's not going to encourage people to crash. |

Hmm.. good debate.
Well, there are two sides that I can think of: Yes because they will have it right at their fingertips and, for the people who are lazy, don't have to go out and buy them and, for the people who think they have better ways of spending their money, would have them right there for free. On the other hand, it could defintatly give off a bad impression. People might think that the schools are encouraging it since they are handing out condoms to students. I think it really depends on what the student's point of view that the condom was distributed to. Although, if you really want to have sex, a condom won't stop you. You'll either do it, or you won't. And if you're smart but you still want it bad enough, you'll buy the condoms yourself. |

I seriously cannot be arsed to read through 10 pages of this.
All I have to say on this is that I am not sure if there is an age restriction on condoms being handed out @ school, but if it was restricted to grade 9(15+?) & above, at least it would be to teens who may have a tiny bit more common sense than say a 6th grader...not that this would stop the 9th grader giving or selling to the 6th grader. The only people that could conceivably be opposed to this would be the Christian Right, Fundamentalist Moslems and Catholics. Now there's some strange bedfellows! Pun intended. Kids saying shit like it encourages kids to screw are just...well kids themselves. Teens will wanna f**k regardless of whether they have protection or not, but at least if the schools are responsible enough to accept this and try to make an effort to reduce the amount of pregnancies, STD's and even AIDS being spread by horny teens, then they've done a good job. If you screw in school and you get caught, you're probably going to get expelled; some may not care about this but since we're debating consensual, and I assume male/female sex here, it would be mighty stupid for both teens to be so controlled by their hormones to not care if they get caught. Dumb ass bitches like that should be expelled. Get your free condoms. Go home or to a friends. Screw each other stupid and its most likely that you'll have nothing worse than carpet burns on your knees, back , ass or boobs to bullshit your parents about and show off as battle scars to your posse, Enjoy. Peace Out |

If you have decided to have sex and can't show your own face in a drugstore to buy a condom or three with your own money, you should rethink the decision to have sex. This goes for ladies as well as gentlemen. Women have the power to take control of whether or not they are going to lose their virginity, get a disease, get pregnant, etc. Just because you don't have a weiner doesn't mean you can't say what is and isn't allowed inside you!
If you want to have sex, you have to decide what you are or aren't going to do before you get into the hot and heavy, throbbing body parts, now or never situation, so when you ARE there, you don't have to make a life-or-death decision, because that's what it is. You can't do it, then whine to Trojan or Durex that their rubber broke and now you have a baby, or the clap. Having sex is how you get those things (potentially). If you don't want them, don't do it. If you're willing to accept a SMALL risk, get a good condom and know how to properly use it, ladies too! Don't let him pull a five year old, wrinkled, 'been sittin in his wallet or baking on his dashboard' no name rubber out and slap it on in the dark! If you are willing to accept a big risk, then don't make your decision in advance and just go with what feels good; then, later, when your pushing that 10 pound baby out of your 'fun parts', think about what treating your body and your future with blase, devil-may-care concern has gotten you. Or, when your sitting (or standing) at the toilet and it burns (which means you've gotten away from a big risk with relatively little punishment) think about how nasty and embarrassing that is, and use a condom next time. Go get one yourself, and be an adult. Adults have sex, and adults deal with the consequences. |

It'd be good because it would prevent pregnancies.
BUT Some peopel don't have sex because they don't have the guts to go buy condoms, so that only gives them another reason to have sex? So IDK hard one. |

The best way would be to NOT have pre-martial sex altogether
but condoms will have to do for now because if they didn't hand them out, people just wouldn't use them.. and that would cause problems. |

I think no.
The school keeps talking about how there are so many dangers with having premarital sex. {I have no problem with people who have sex before marriage, though.} But like, there ARE some dangers, not just STDs, but emotional ones..in two cases with my friends, they broke up very soon after they had sex. I'm not really a religious person myself, so I doubt I will wait until marriage, but all I'm saying is that if the school makes sex sound so evil all the time, handing out condoms would kind of defeat their purpose, you know? <3 Francesca |

^ well yea but..they don't just hand them out at a seminar about sex or something. if you need one, you go to the nurse and ask. they tell us to not have sex..
it's better than to have them available than to have a bunch of kids having unprotected sex. |

If parents instilled values into their children like they're supposed to, this wouldn't even be an issue. Because it is, this teen pregnancy thing becomes a viscious cycle. The number of single mothers will keep rising to the point where the government will have to step in and make laws so that american couples will have to file to be allowed to have a baby. Just like they must get a marriage license to get married. Condoms won't help or hurt anything. A gun is only as dangerous as the one who holds it.

Why? So people can buy them and play with them in class?
It's just a gateway for people to be even more immature at school. |

giving condoms away in school is important. at the rate that the acceptance of sex is growing in society we can start to expect the frequency of sexual intercourse to increase as well. (Not like we all knew that already.) The acceptance of sex at a young age isn't slowing down anytime soon. In fact, I think it'll just keep on growing. By not acknowledging this, we are allowing kids mess around with something they don't completely understand.
The least they know is "condoms prevent pregnancies and STDs." It's a good start. Now, the only thing to do is hope that they use the information wisely. hell, i don't care if they keep a bucket of condoms in their car, closet, locker... just as long as they aren't making any babies, I'm satisfied. |

if they are distributed (privately, if at all), their parents/guardians should be beforehand contacted each time.
the end. |

After prom, we got a gift set that included a beer koozie and a bottle opener. They should've just distributed condoms at the door.
As long as the media markets sex to the 11-15 age group and as long as impressionable minds continue to get brainwashed by demoralization of society (i.e. Paris Hilton being a role model for teenage girls?), then those of authority who fail to change whats happening should adapt. In other words... School administrators need to suck it up and make condoms available. Just because they're available doesn't mean the student body willhave a mass orgy in the courtyard. |

Sammi was right, teenagers are going to have sex no matter what you tell them, so the school should have condoms available. Not like, HANDING THEM OUT, but just have them available. And I was wrong before too, all the people who come in to talk to us about sex say, "Believe us, we're not against sex or anything, we just want you all to be aware of the consequences." So if it's your choice, let there be condoms. Heh. I mean, people are always saying that the school has to act as a parent to its students, so where else can you feel safe about these things? |

No. Schools should not be handing out condoms. First of all that's people's personal matters and second I know people at my school would play with them, throw them around, etc.
