AIM's direct connect often fails if you or the other person are behind a router or firewall. Are you behind one? (You might use a router or firewall if you have a broadband Internet connection, or if you are using AIM on a school or university network.)

It also doesn't work if you or the other person is using a different program besides the original AIM program to use AIM. Such as Trillian, which is what I use since I use AIM, Yahoo, and MSN and it allows you to use all of them at once.
It's more likely what mipadi said. You might wanna ask the other person though. |
