That's because we had a Current Events section before and because it's gone during the remodeling of cB the news was moved to the Lounge. I believe it's going to be added again or something like that. Anyway, it's good to have news articles here because I know that some people wouldn't know what was going on outside their houses if not for the articles and stories.

yeah but it's a feeble attempt. Topics that aren't based on articles will end up dying sooner.

I know you want the Lounge back and as I said, I think they're going to make a separate section for the Current Events again so just hang on and chill.
And no they won't necessarily die sooner. Topics are always being brought back up.

I think some news articles are interesting, but I agree that the recent influx is kind of annoying.

But honestly, when was the last time people really went in-depth with discussion and expressing of their opinions in The Lounge, anyway? Most of the time, everyone only posts a quick one-line answer to the basic question of the post, without regards to any sort of vague "discussion" posted before them anyway.

The Current Events forum was necessary to throw in all these crappy topics about nothing, but really, I think we should just get rid of these stupid topics about current events, and thereby have no use for a Current Events forum.

Waste of space. It's not like any real discussion is made there. The Debate forum is way more effective in brewing conversation. Current Events was an empty wasteland of spam.

And even though the Lounge never had much in-depth discussion anyway, at least we got to know more about people, and get to know them better. The Current Events topics just allow for predictable, impersonal answers.

I think that it's nice that people are informing cBers about news and what not but I do agree that there isn't much discussion in them. However, what exactly can be discussed? It's simply just information and the topic starters don't really ask for opinions or ask questions that would bring about a discussion. I'm sure if there was a Current Events section though, it would be put to good use. If anything, post counts could not be counted there then if it's considered to be an empty wasteland of spam.

^ The idea of a forum full of empty comments scares me a bit, but then again there's the Introductions forum. So I really shouldn't be.

I think that the current events topics that cannot be discussed shouldn't be allowed; current events topics that can cause lots of in-depth discussion (which isn't a lot of them) can go in the Lounge or Debate.

However I do think that the idea of informing cBers about news is a good thing, I agree that many many people don't know what's going on in the world. It's a bit sad, actually.

I'm kind of on the fence about this now...hm.

About half of the posts in this forum are newsposts. I want the current events forum back so they can be moved and we can talk about.. normal things besides news.

Honestly. If we want to read news, we'll go watch tv.

some news articles are interesting...or slightly amusing, yet others are just plain, with a lack of a better word to say, crap.

i just don't feel that we need to be hearing about every little murder going on. i mean, if you really wanted, i could post news articles every day about murders or robberies in taiwan. but no.

the current events forum was a good idea, but like gigi said, it was kind of pointless. but still, i prefer the current events forum to having all these random news articles put into the lounge.

i want the lounge back tooo!

I'd have to go back and check where all the news articles are posted, but since it doesn't appear that the Current Events section will be added anytime soon (perhaps never?) why not have the articles posted in more of a themed fashion? Articles about celebrities in Entertainment, articles (like the toilet paper incident) in Relationships, articles (like the bad weed one) in Health, etc?

I don't know. Just trying to be constructive.

well thats why i think its a load of bull
seriously, there are so many other ways you can find out whats going on in the world. to me all the articles that are posted are just petty comparisons and stories you might be able to tell your friends when you're bored. how much real life are we learning about here? o_O

anyway...until we get those stupid forums back EASE UP ok? or maybe take zantanna's advice.

Were you telling me to ease up...?

Anyway, there are PLENTY of pointless topics in the lounge where there is no discussion in. The birthday threads or RIP threads or whatever else have no discussion at all. Everyone just repeats what has been said. If the news articles shouldn't be posted than neither should those.

As I said before, there are plenty of people who either don't want to or are too lazy to go watch the news or read a newspaper and because of that, it's useful to have current events posted. Yeah, it might be pretty pathetic and sad but that's just how it is. Even if they wanted to know what was going on, they probably wouldn't turn the TV on to find out. I know people like that.

I agree though that many are pointless and in no real way impact anyone's life, it's more of just something to share to a friend or something. Nonetheless, it's still news so hopefully the Current Events section will be brought back and then all of the news articles (no matter how pointless) can be put in there.

On a sidenote, cB has changed so much that the Lounge is no longer what it used to be back in the day and I don't think it really will be either.

I think yeahh.. we should make the current events in a different forum, maybe it should be here in the lounge, but maybe it can be a link around the pinned topics like you know how by-laws are in feedback forums.
