cs source has been dumbified for general newcomers to the game. Recoil control and physics, along with hitboxes make the game relatively easier, therefore are much more fun in public servers. When it comes to scrimmage and leagues, source is considered not as heavily hyped up as 1.6, and gameplay is much more impatient in scrimmages than in 1.6.
1.6 has bad public servers that force your interp and configs, along with downloaded viruses through some files that become executed while joining servers. 1.6 members are heavily determined by steam ID. the lower it is, the mor expierence and skill you have. along with history. (relatively 4 digits are uncommon, two and three digits are rare. five and six digits are occasiionally seen in public servers, but seven and eight digits are common. which means that seven and eight digit players have no expierence in scrimmages, or have recently recieved and bought the game.) Rarely you'll see good seven digits, but their steam ID is realitivly a low one. like a 0:1:100900, or 0:0:209000. Which means they recieved the game a year and a half ago, or around there.
1.6 has more hackers, especially in leagues because leagues nearly triple the amount of teams than source. 1.6 has more configurations to tweak for better and cheap gameplay. (online teams that are amazing usually suck at lan due to illegal configs, since lan forces everything, and are also supervised.)
1.6, it's nearly impossible to get to cal-i. source it's possible due to it being realively new.
1.6 has more sponsors, more respect, and pays more for competition and salary.
1.6 is harder to scrim, matches are all mental gameplay, not individual skill.
1.6 players are hard to find, the good ones especially. STEAMID's that are four digits to five generally go from 40-200 dollars off of ebay, especially with history on it. (history may be checked out at ampednews.com).
So overall, 1.6 scrimmages are harder, more competive than source due to it's history and eager teams (wannabees) to reach higher divisons. It's surprising how many people will cheat to achieve that goal, but it's also surprising how many people get caught and banned as well.
Source is a fun game, I'd prefer it over 1.6 in general pubs and lan. But scrimming and competition I see it still immature in it's developing stages.
and yes, I am a six digit player. I've had the game for five years now, but registered on steam four months after it came out.
Now.. my past history.
The highest level I've reached is cal-main, and nel-main by practicing the map of the week with organized strats for 2-3 hours each and every night.
I quit for a bit, and now i'm back with my old team. We're currently in NEL-main, and started up cal-open. All of our players are 4-6 digits, (along with two very good sevens). Our history in our players at ampednews.com consists of all ex-main players (yes, actual main players with proof, you can check), and hopefully this season we'll move up in division. We practice three hours each night from 12-3, and me being the youngest (17), ranges from to age 24. We have a source division too, along with two private servers.
You'll find us at web2zone on feb 18 and 19 at 9:00 am. We're participating in the lan tourney, 1st place gets 2000 plus additional prizes and what not. registration is 30 online and 35 at the door. just informing current cs teams that would like to join or watch.

Counter-strike rocks and all but, there are to many hackers lately in 1.6. I mean why hack, use your pure skill. Doesn't matter if you suck, just try.

thats extremely wrong about that comment on 1.6. it is by far a lot harder than it was in 1.3 and 1.5 where the most noticeable weapon affected was the awp. if you ever have (sounds like you havent) PLAYED 1.6 and 1.5, you would know about the delay from the gun coming out and scoping.

the recoil? my god. it seriously seems like youve never played the game before. from pub scrubs to professionals, theyll all tell you that the recoil is a lot harder to deal with because it jumps a lot higher in a split second. spraying in 1.5 was my bread and butter, but now i rely on 1-2 shot bursts even up close.

wrong again. it's relatively easy to get into because the skill level is not high at all. the best players of any fps are playing painkiller, q4, and cs 1.6 because thats where the REAL money is. source is a totally different engine to learn, and movement is a lot harder to master compared to cs 1.6 (just ask hanes from u5).

thats totally not true. ive had this secondary steamid of mine (7 digits 0:1:1320900) for about 3 and half years now. i used 0:1:77222 but sold it to a friend (with source on it woot) for $50.

didn't i say i quit for abit and came back?
we're the remains of 9MM, absolute, and we're the team that hijacked ellegaming for the hell of it. those were all seasons 12 and below, and we came under a new name in cal-open. of course you won't hear about pixelsports, we're a cal-open team that just came back from a long break. yes, we are all from the original roster and our steamids show we've all played on the same teams in the central coast. it's going to take a while to get our chemistry back, and like most teams it'll probably take us a few seasons to get to where we left off.

if you haven't read thoughourly, i didn't mention anything at all about 1.3 or 1.5. i compared it to source. and the awp change happened after 1 1/2 years 1.6 came out, not after 1.5.

1-2 shot bursts even up close? i usually shoot 4-5 cause of my low sensitivty. your's must be pretty high for the least.

oh and by the way, in cpl and other competive lan tourneys, the prize money for souce is a few grand higher, but in 1.6 it's smaller, but there are more additional prizes added on to it from sponors such as nvidia, intel, icemat etc

oh and your steam id has no league proof what so ever, thanks for listing that cal-p team that doesn't have your name or roster on it. you're great! oh, and your five digit only has up to main on it so don't even boast about being in cal-p.
like i said before, i have met very few but skilled and legit seven digit players usually on the low end. what i was referring to the higher seven digits to eights. most of the cheat, there is no way you can play for just a year and a half and be that good. it takes at least two to three to get to a good amount of skill. (since each season rates to about a few months). even during that one year span, you'll only be in about two seasons of cal hence not giving you that much experience.

in general, the lower your steam id the more experience you have because the loewr it is means the LONGER you had the game. can't you use any sense of logic?
oh please, people do start caring at six digits. espeically the low end ones. if you face a team that has 4-6 digits, you know they've been around the block. i had my six digit for 4 1/2 years now, and i regged steam then. the game out a year before that for 1.6.

and the rest of you are probably wondering man this game is unpleasant. it actually is and thats why i quit while i was ahead. you can get to a certain point in competitive cs, but then you find yourself posing this question: "how far can i actually get?" for me, it was premier with dontblink, and i think i was overfortunate to have gotten there. people like this magicfann character seem to act like they know a lot and then attempt to insult the likes of others (me), but in this case, he's failed miserably. one piece of advice for anyone reading this: please don't talk (or type) when you know little to nothing about a topic.

if anyone would like to scrim or pub for fun, i'm also available. i can actually teach people to play as well; aim: knowskillwong . i have a ventrilo, but no priv server, so if a scrim is presented, we do need a priv server.
