They are the militant of all militant rappers and prove a lot of points. I don't agree with everything they say, but, they forcefeed you food for thought. As for their music; you can only listen to anti-establishment banter until it becomes redundant and annoying. Nevertheless, when the revolution comes, they'll be at the forefront along with Immortal Technique, KanYe West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mr. Lif, and other rappers that are aware of modernized racism.

M-1 SPEAKS OUT AGAINST 'BLACK HISTORY MONTH'

(NEW YORK, NY) Rapper M-1, of dead prez, sounds off regarding yet another
Black History month celebration this February. The rapper and activist
feels the need to acknowledge Black contributions should be year round and
the acknowledgement of this celebration also acknowledges the fact that
Black life is marginalized. Below is his commentary on what he believes
to be yet another insult thrown at Black people living in the United States:


"Well, first of all I think the concept of Black History Month is insulting
and offensive to all people of African descent. It seems like a measly,
meaningless offer from the parasitic and capitalistic system that has
amassed an empire of wealth from our worldwide community. Instead of
offering us 28 days in February, we should be awarded reparations as this
so-called Black History month doesnt include any agenda to lift oppression
from Black life i.e. war on drugs, taxes, awful healthcare conditions, and
economic disparity. Further, the actual name of this "sacred" month- Black
History Month is damaging propaganda in it of itself. As my partner
Stic.man would say, we should call it Crack History Month because of the
damage that has been done to our community. This is the reason why my most
recent video, Til We Get There, ends up with a group of kids in the hood
around a mural that we created which depicted the words Black History Month
scratched out to reveal a more appropriate AFRICAN HISTORY YEAR Therefore,
I propose a ban on the term Black History Month because it doesnt identify
the land mass and the people that produced everything that we know of as

music has ways of twisting...things around...where you have to listen to the words...and when you make it big and then speak out your input on anything..it has a big impact...no matter what the cause.. amazing how one's person's voice can influence so many no?

Well... I sort of agree. But not a year, it just wouldn't work out.

Black people aren't getting reparations. First you'd have to decide who's Black and who isn't, and with all the "mixing" that went around back in the day, it's hard to say who's "Black" and who's not. Then you'd have to decide on an appropriate "amount" if you're talking monetarily, but who's to say what's enough?

I personally don't think that Black History Month is "offensive" since it was created by a Black man for Black people (originally as a week, as you may know) or how it's "damaging propaganda" but I will agree to the point that Black History Month does need some revision.

Many races have gone through hard times. I think we should all be proud of who we are. And I do believe that Black History month was just some coined term a bunch of people made to keep a certain population content. We should recognize the trials our ancestors went through. We should respect other races and learn from each other. I think putting it into one month for one race dumbs down everything african-american's fought for and everything other races have fought for. Racial discrimination happens to everyone, we should celebrate how far we've all come and remember where we are going.

in my modern american history class we did an entire unit on the civil rights movement and it fit in perfectly with the chronological order of the semester. but then at the end of it just noticed that it just so happend to last the whole month of february. i don't know if he did that on purpose or not, but it worked out well. i don't know if anywhere else they'll be learning about, like, world war 1 then february comes around and they drop everything to learn black history. if that is the case, though, that's lame.
