QUOTE
Pacquiao KOs Morales!

Sunday, January 22 2006

By Mike Sloan and Victor Perea at ringside

In a battle of super featherweight superstars, Manny Pacquiao (41-3-1, 32 KOs) knocked out Erik Morales (48-4, 34 KOs) in round ten Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas. After falling behind early, Pacquiao turned up the heat in round six and started a brutal beatdown of Morales, who went down twice in the tenth.Good two-way action in round one from both fighters. Round two was even better. Pacquiao nearly dropped Morales but Morales fought back bravely. Morales got the best of round three with some good flurries. Morales' jab started to become more of a factor in round four as he was able to move Pacquiao backwards. Morales had the edge again in round five. The turning point was in round six when Pacquiao launched a furious attack leaving Morales staggering back to his corner. Morales tried to take the initiative in round seven, but Pacquiao was now outmuscling Morales. Erik's nose appeared to be badly broken. The Pacquiao onslaught continued in the eighth although Morales had an effective spurt toward the end of the round. Pacquiao continued stalking Morales in the ninth and Morales was looking like a beaten fighter. Pacquiao floored Morales twice with a barrage of punches in the tenth. After the second knockdown, the fight was stopped by referee Kenny Bayless at 2:33. The win avenges Pacman's loss to Morales last March. The fight contract includes a rematch clause and after the fight Pacquiao said he's willing to give Morales a third fight, however Morales (who has now lost three of his last four) stated he wants to take a long rest before coming back. Meanwhile there is an offer from Golden Boy Promotions for Pacquiao to face WBC super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera on March 25, although that's likely too soon after a tough fight. Pacquiao also commented that the Cleto Reyes gloves he wore in this fight made a difference.

Ah, nuts, I missed this. Well, TV is hard to come by around here, especially boxing matches.

But man—the low-weight boxing class matches are my favorites. Sure, it's great to see heavyweights beat down on each other, but those featherweights can really dance.

Yeah, my interest in boxing has really shifted to the lower weight classes, especially since Pacquiao came. I can name more lighterweight boxers than heavyweights now.

Barrerra is next!

Barrera is scared to fight Manny. That is the reason he requested such an outrageous purse, knowing it wouldn't happen. Manny would easily win. Can anybody say Manny V. Morales III?

Well, I really don't like Barrera anyways, just rooting for him 'cuz he's Mexican. But a Manny V. Morales III is likely to happen. Vargas is my man.

Might not happen til next year or two years later... Since Morales might want to retire or just take a vacation. But Manny has Barrera's number...Barrera even got scared when Manny KO Morales so he continued that postponed fight with Jesus Chavez in the Lightweight so he can avoid Manny's left hand.

Vargas is done, he was never prime! got KO by Tito, and overated De La Hoya! Shane Mosley wins in a 11 round TKO, just my prediction... Still can't believe Manny KO Morales...naw thats history!!! First time ever!!! tangina, Mabuhay and Pinay!!!

aww man, i didn't know there was a manny pacquiao thread! i watched the Morales Vs. Pacquiao rematch at my aunt's house, it was a good fight cuz if u were for the pacman, it was real intense. he was swinging left and right, more than Morales but Morales was actually landing more punches. he even had Morales backing away from him most of the time cuz it seemed like he was always trying to go in for the kill. if Pacquiao didn't TKO him, Morales MIGHT have won by leberman score cuz he had the bettter score according to the judges, but i know the Pacman would have won anyways
