i don't think that you are ignoring the issue, clearly from what sammi has said, you aren't. however, it is proving ineffective. stop warning him, and start acting on it. |

I'm just posing a question, but (directed to all), do you think that certain members get special treatment due to their friendship with a mod? Each forum is different, and I post in a few others, so I'mjust curious.
Overall, the strict rules and guidelines have loopholes, but the mods do a pretty decent job. There are a few things here and there, but, overall, the mods do a pretty good job. Decorum, on the other hand... |

oh sure.
it's because mods are also members, and members make friends. and even while trying to remain impartial, people subconsiously try to justify the ruling they want. not being machines; mods undoubtable favor certain members more than others. they are likely to be more lenient with some than with others. this is to be expected. it is, however, the magnitude of this that must be watched. and as far as that- i don't think it has gotten too big. |

I agree, I think the personable staff is what makes CB. If we take away the mods and make them robots with no friends, CB would be a pretty dry place. Of course there is some favouritism that we all see happening. Some of it seems unfair, but I don't think CB is doing a horrid job of maintaining the line between friendship and mod responsibilities. |

yeah. that happens sometimes and i agree with justin BUT if one of your friends is breaking rules and you don't see it or want to act on it, i can guarantee that there are OTHER moderators who will -> probably because they aren't friends with that person. BLAH!  get what i'm TRYING to say??

that wont change the fact that there is spcial treatment, rather just change who gets the special treatment. personally, i dont think the issue is wide spread enough to be a cause for concern |

I don't think there's any sort of way to avoid any bias. The world isn't that way, certainly, and it's really only sensible for cb to follw suit, since it's like other realities in so many ways as it is. However, I really don't think it's an issue- from the stand point of both when I was a mod and now that I'm not. The fatc of the matter is, people don't want to upset the people they like by being too harsh on them, espceially since when they are, it can just as easily be turned around to suggest that the mod would not have been so strict if they weren't trying to prove they could be fair. Equality is something that can never truly be reached; however, this is no aristocracy, parcticulatly since the "favored" ones vary as times change.

in my opinion, people who are friends of mods may have delayed punishment, and it may be less, but they still will get punishment.
once the bylaws get approved, there won't be an way that the punishments will be different, so that sort of favoritism will be removed. (so go finsih the bylaws!) |

In responding to Jackie's post:
I didn't know that you have to submit layouts in order to become staff. Well that was probably required in the past but I don't think so as for now. We have official designers for that. Besides, I trust the mods who nominated me at that time DID consider everything before choosing me as a staff member nominee, and the admins who made the final decisions (okay I can't exactly remember the whole hiring process). I know this isn't exactly convincing, but I hope that even though you question my ability as a Xanga Staff, DO trust the admins and head staffs. The 6 of them are certainly capable of making the right decisions and taking actions when they know something must be done. And lastly, thank you for the concern and feedback. |
