How are (in you own opinion) the top 5 rock bands in the last 50 years or so. I saw 50 years because that is pretty much when rock became more main stream here in america with the "British Invasion" and all. Also its when Rock n Roll really exploded onto the scene.

For me tho beign a heavy rock fan my self i'd say"

1. Lynard Skynard - One of the few bands that made an original apperence at Woodstock and still very popular.

2. The Beatles w/ Eric Clapton - Clapton and Harrison where childhood friends and wrote some of the best song ever (While My Guitar Gently Weeps) with Clapton of the guitars

3. Metallica - Not the first but certianly the ones to prefect Heavy Rock. These guys paved the way for many bands we have today that ppl enjoy.

4. Jimi Hendrix - Not one of my personal Favorites but i do like some of his stuff and respect him for creating much of the first sound of electric Distortion from a guitar and making it music. Heavy Rock and many other styles wouldnt be here with out him.

5. Disdurbed - The heavy Rock Band of the new century. They have followed the path of some of the greats before them to bring a new sound to new generations of rockers. With sounds much like those of Panthera, Metallica, Black Sabith and many others. They are newest great rock bands of the ages.

1) The Beatles
2) The Rolling Stones
3) Led Zeppelin
4) Pink Floyd
5) U2

Those are just the five big name rock bands that came into my head first... I think it goes without saying, though, that George, John, Paul and Ringo get first prize.

Not a comprehensive list, but here are a few that come to my mind immediately:
  • The Pixies: If you're unsure of their importance, just look at the number of bands who list The Pixies as an inspiration. Much of the rock music of the 90s is a descendent of the sound pioneered by The Pixies.
  • Nirvana: Like 'em or hate 'em, they jumpstarted a whole genre, and set the tone of rock music for most of the 90s.
  • The Beatles: Influential in setting the tone of music for an entire generation.
Obviously not a complete list, but it's a start.

1. Beatles - Influenced most of the music of our time
2. Nirvana - The angst voice of Kurt Cobain was like no other, the pioneers of grunge, took punk and metal and turned it into a new style
3. Led Zeppelin - Created their own style amazing voice of Robert Plant and the guitar playing of Jimmy Paige - using a violin bow with his guitar.
4. Jimi Hendrix - One of the greatest guitarists known to man
5. The Ramones - Punk Rock Pioneers, again influenced many bands today

oOoOo this is hard... ermm.gif

1. The Beatles Deff. my #1. They defined a generation and paved the way for rock bands of today to rock on! Not my personal fav, but a must.
2. Nirvana Again, not a personal fav, but still very significant. Like the Beatles, they paved the road for grunge, and alternative music.
3. Aerosmith and The Rolling Stines Heehee, now its time for MY favorite. I luv Aerosmith, but the Stones are on the same page as Aerosmith in terms of legends. But The Stones are older, so they have a slight "up" on Aerosmith. I could've picked other bands like The Who or The Eagles, but these guys are legends.
4. U2 Gotta luv U2. It amazes me how they've been on the charts for 20+ years, and they still have amazing shows! These guys will never die (ha, much like the Stones. HOW old r they?! hehe.gif )
5. Coldplay Okay, so I put up some of the "older" bands, and now time for a more current band. I luv these guys. They're paving the way for a new sound in rock music to come out. I mean they don't sound like your typical rock band, they combine new sounds together, and it works! I totally believe that Coldplay's the next U2. Rock On!
