Funny how the art style is so similar. It's believed that Sony is paying artists to spray walls with images. This guy was caught in the act: ![]() It seems like he's copying the image from a paper that Sony might have sent him. Here is the community response to some of these images: ![]()

Wow... That's messed up that they would vadalize buildings just to get advertise. They're worse than gangs who vandalize. Haha, it says Fony. :P
I wonder how much was in the check that the artists got? But I love the Sony PSP.. :/ |

"And so sony will have to revert to it's former urban advertising tactic of scraping 'For a good time play Luminesce on the PSP' onto bathroom stalls."
Something like that. Cute chibi people though. |

It's not vandalism--Sony not only asked permission from the building's owners, but they paid them money to advertise.

QUOTE(mipadi @ Dec 7 2005, 7:40 PM) It's not vandalism--Sony not only asked permission from the building's owners, but they paid them money to advertise. Where'd you read this? This quote says otherwise. QUOTE "I called the city today to have the stencils on the back of Juan's Market painted over. For some strange reason, I'd rather see my friendly local gang lay claim to that wall then have it given over to some crappy corporation and its urban marketing campaign." And if Sony dd ask permission and pay, wouldn't Sony admit to it? Every report I read said the Sony said they weren't responsible. |

I read it on somewhere within the last day or so. I thought it was on Slashdot, but I haven't found the article yet. I'll have to look around.

So anyway, now Sony admits to the ads. And now they're being sued over it.
Article Is it just me, or has Sony's advertising become weirder and weirder? The PSP nut/carpet ads are just stupid. |

If you want something to sell, you have to step to more creative ideas. Hence, the urban graffiti and their new commercials.

QUOTE(Gearbox @ Dec 30 2005, 6:50 PM) If you want something to sell, you have to step to more creative ideas. Hence, the urban graffiti and their new commercials. Yeah, but these are actually counterproductive. Getting sued and being resented by graffiti artists is not the way to go. People who don't know about the PSP will be like WTF when a squirrel says "IT'S LIKE A NUT!" or when the dust balls say "IT'S LIKE A CARPET!" Nice job on the stereotypes too! Also, have you seen the commercial where the people pass around the PSP? How does that make you want to play the PSP? The guy chucks it off a mountain, basketball player catches it, plays it for five seconds, then chucks it. It's as if it couldn't entertain them for more than a few seconds. The 360 commercials are more creative anyway. The waterballoon one and the shooting one that was banned were pretty good. |

I think it's implying that you'll want to share it with everyone. |

I like the ads, personally. I think though they could just put up a billboard that they paid for that looks like it's been vandalized. More people would see it, and they wouldn't be sued.
