take note of the last table in the menu with the digg news. i got it working to display my feed real time ^-^ (as for some reason the default code the site regularly gives you doesn't work on xanga)

it's supposed to be real simple, as i use it as my personal blog. i whipped it together real quick but i thought it worked out pretty nice.

the second is so simplistic that I wanted to barf on it but I figured it would be useless because the phlem would blend into your layout. YOu realy need to add somthing to the backround of it or maybe put in some modules.

i don't see the significance in either layout. they're way too simple to even be called a skin. your banner is a picture with text. nothing special on that. and so is your other layout. simple coding and simple imaging. it just looks dead. a default xanga seems much more appealing than this.

You know what guys - you are being WAY too harsh - now, I like them. Now, they are too simplistic for submition, but sometimes simplicity is nice. Now for the critique...

I love your idea on the first one (and Tifa's way cool) - however there seems to be a lot of empty space. Perhaps but a repeating background behind the blog/nav to pull the design together and separate it at the same time. OOOooooooo~ I just refreshed it - SONIC IS FREAKING AWESOME!... brings back childhood memories. New banner on refresh... I like it.

The second one - I love the banner, and the color scheme is great (I noticed the slightly darker color on the top - I love it!) Perhaps you need to blend a little of the 1st blog into the second - try creating a subtle pattern in the background and putting something behind the blog date headers - I think they shouldn't stand alone like that.

actually in your context, every banner is a picture with text. who says you have to sully up an image for it to qualify as a banner. i think if the source image isn't worth being displayed alone, you should'nt bother working with it in the first place. you know another site that is simple and works effectively?

the stroke and curved border worked for me. and you have no business bringing up my coding. i had to end up rewriting a lot of the source coding sites gave (like the digg feed and polling section) and find out which ones had to be run through decrypters to work, let alone rewrite the whole menu. you'll be hard-pressed to find dropdowns like that or a page with a game that ends up loading as fast as mine. if you're serious about my coding being subpar i would really love you linking some examples of first time good backbone.

Ok your fist one isn't that bad now that I noticed the refresh banner, but the image quality on the sonic one needs to be improved.

The second one needs somthing like a double border for the blog or maybe you coul change the color of the blog and make it look accented.

I have a 1024 x 768 res and it works fine - I use IE, if that's the problem.

digital fragrance you have so many animations it loads slow even on a T1 connection, and also on firefox your page doesnt line up. Your design would kickass if it lined up and didnt have so many animations.

Nice layout on the first one. Actually one of the best I've seen for a text intensive layout with plenty of space for graphics. The negative space or "empty space" is as important as anything else and is a design element itself. The November 18th post is chilling. Thanks for the reminder. The hovers are a nice touch too.

I'm not a big fan of the banner on the first one with the girl (it doesn't carry a message as much as the others), but I love the sonic and christie banners. On the second layout, I think you could've done more with the colors and the way you designed your blogbody; still keeping it simple, but playing with the colors to enhance the look of your banner. The first layout still feels a bit default-y, like you got rid of a few borders and threw on a header pic, but that's just me.

The first layout still feels a bit default-y, like you got rid of a few borders and threw on a header pic, but that's just me.

actually i removed the default menu and what you see there is a whole rewritten one. guess i should've spruced it up more i went for a more useable than eye gouging look, the last thing i want is to resort to animated gifs or transparencies or something.

scrollbar wasn't a big concern for me, drilotedahl, since i use firefox it wouldn't've shown up. i think that kind of modification is pretty tacky anyway.
