QUOTE(Rachel is love @ Dec 11 2005, 6:34 PM)
Rjalfajlfsd, Fall Out Boy isn't a new Artist.
*

Yeah, but this is the first time they made a major debut. The chick who won in 2001, Shelby Lynne, made it clear that she had been an singer/musician for 13 years before getting the Grammy for Best New Artist. Under-the-radar records don't count for the Academy.

QUOTE(lilliannnn @ Dec 12 2005, 8:11 PM)
Jeez. And Kanye should win everything. Just because I'm really biased and in love with him.
*

As much as he's threatened, he's not going to get "Album of the Year." For one thing, the man is way too cocky and the Academy knows that. And another thing, he's going up against Paul McCartney and U2. As much as I like Kanye, I think McCartney has it in the bag.

And John Legend is going to beat Keane for Best New Artist. Because he is the best new artist.

Record of the Year is between Mariah Carey and Green Day. I pick Green Day.

Best Pop Performance - The White Strips with "My Doorbell."

Damn, the Rap Solo Performance nods suck. I hope Common gets that one.

Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group sure as hell ain't going to BEP. It's not going to Ying Yang either. Ideally, I'd want Common to take it but I wouldn't be surprised if a Dr. Dré protégé takes it.

I'm skipping over the Rap/Sung category because those songs all suck and I haven't heard the Common song that's up for it.

Best Rap Song goes to Kanye, but if Game takes it, I wouldn't be surprised.

Best Rap Album goes to Kanye, too.

K, so I'll actually tell you who I want to win/ think is gonna win.

Record of the Year - Sadly, I think it's going to Mariah Carey. That song was so fcuking overplayed... so there must be something everyone likes about it. I love all those songs though, damn.

Album of the Year- Of course I want Kanye, come on now. And I really really like Gwen's album, too. But they're both up against some other amazing artist's that have been around for awhile. I'm not sure about this one.

Song of the Year - Honestly, everything that We Belong Together was nominated for, it's going to win. Which makes me mad.... Go John Legend!

Best New Artist- OKAY YEAH FALL OUT BOY ISN'T A NEW ARTIST, but I agree with Madame C that "under the radar" records don't count. I don't know, I really liked their album that would've been "above the radar", but I don't know if they deserve to win. Ciara has been blowin' UP this year, but she's not the greatest singer. And John Legend is amazing. This is a toughie.

Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group - Yeah, Black Eyed Peas? Not with this song. And isn't This Love like from 2004? I'd like to see The Killers win it... but Los Lonley Boys and the White Stripes have a chance, too.

Best Rap Solo Performance - I'd say Golddigger was one of the bigger hits of 2005, and definitely one of the biggest for Kanye himself, so I'm gonna go with that. T.I., Luda and50 Cent's nominations I can understand, and those are pretty catchy songs but I'm not so sure. Eminem has been having a pretty good year, too. Common is amazing of course, but I'm not sure he'll be so recognized.

Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group - I honestly thing that the Ying Yangs Twin are going to win. Yeah, that song was horrible but it was so motherfcukin' creative and catchy and a HUGE HIT. Personally, Hate It or Love It is a favorite of mine though I despise 50 Cent.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration - 1,2 Step was a HUGE HIT, also, and one of my favorites even after being overplayed. The whole Jay-Z/Linkin Park mash-up was pretty cool but I'm not sure about them. Hmmm, I'm not sure I like these nominatins.

Best Rap Song - For once, I'm not being biased. I think Diamonds From Sierra Leone should win. This is one of Kanye's best songs. Candy Shop?!?!?!? Yeah, it was a big hit. Ugh... now I am being biased because I hate 50 Cent.

Best Rap Album - I don't have Missy or Common's album but I know Common's was amazing. 50 Cent is a performer, he knows how to make a hit... He's just not the best rapper. I personally think he has a chance of winning, sadly. Encore was a great(!) album but I'm not sure about it. Kanye's was simply amazing. This is a toughie, too.

what is the difference between record of the year and song of the year?

kinda oxymoronic, don't ya think?

Well not really. Song of the Year is for the songwriter. Record of the Year is for those involved with its recording (singer, mixer, producer). Just because a song is up for Record of the year doesn't mean its a good song from a written perspective. And just because a song is up for Song of the Year doesn't mean it has good production.
