after being freed from slavery they needed help entering society.  thats it. |

no. any reparations would have further damaged the south and lead to increased racism. also, the south would have remained in economic desparity for longer.
this would have created a war in the south between whites and blacks, and would have ultimatley ended with the wholesale massacre of the blacks, with limited resistance. |

morally they probably should have but it would have crippled an economy already suffering from the loss of a free work force.
