I live in New York right.. So I take public transportation (bus/trains) all the time. It frustrates me whenever it's a day when the bus/train is so packed and there's a long way back home..I'm tired.. and I see a seat open and a person put their bag there. Now it's not fair to people who are really tired and need to sit..especially the elderly or handicapped.. Well what do you think?

I set my bag in my lap and sometimes in the seat next to me but if it's full, then of course I'll move my bag. That's a little inconsiderate for those who don't.

Well, that's why they have the new rules from the MTA about that kind of stuff... even though it is common sense. I usually put my bag in my lap or on the floor. The only time I put it on the seat next to me is usually when there's no one else, or barely any people on the bus/train.
Besides, you could always ask the person to please remove their bag so you can take the seat.

^ I'd say that's ruder than leaving the bag in a chair.

Usually I carry my purse in my lap. Sometimes, if I'm carrying a bigger bag, I do that absentmindedly. But, if someone asks if they can sit there, I always move it.

i think that ppl do it so that they won't have some weird dirty person sit next to them. because you know how public transportation seats are like THAT close together? right so well i think ppl just don't want to be close with a random stranger. rolleyes.gif

it is really rude though when the train is all crowded and shit.

Well I think it's rude when there's a lot of people. But say you're the only person in your row of seats and the floor was wet because it was raining out?

Uh, ask them to take their bag off the chair? Most civilized people will let you. If they don't, then just move on.

I think it's ok to do that if there is no-one standing up or anything. If there are other spare seats they can sit there. but if there are no spare seats than i move my bag...btw im talking about a bus. I can't exactly relate cos i don't live in america and i live in a reasonably small city

I know what you mean..if I were tired, I would just go up to that person and politely ask if I could take that seat. Hopefully, they would say yes _smile.gif If not..then they're mean. stubborn.gif Unless they really were saving someone's place.

i carry my bag everywhere and i walk and take the train a lot since icant drive so after an hour of walking to the train station, and standing and waiting for the train, its nice to be a able to put your stuff down on the seat next to you. It is pretty impolite not to move it if somebody asks tho.

I would just tell them to move their bag nicely. It is rude if they see that there isn't much room and don't even bother to move their bag. I would get pissed off.

I put it in my bag or lap. I've never been a situation where the train was packed and the person kept their bag on the floor. But I was on the 7 train and the train was packed and this guy was sitting INBETWEEN two seats and he wasn't fat or anything, he purposely sat inbetween them so someone couldn't sit. I thought that was so selfish. But if someone kept their bag on the seat, I'd shove it off and sit. lol, just kidding, I would ask them to take it off.

Oh god, I've seen people do that too. I must admit, I've done that before. But it was because this lady wouldn't scoot over a bit and I didn't want to be all up on her.

ohmy.gif

i hate it when people have no consideration for others and take up all that damn space. or when like parents let their kids have like freaking 3 seats to themselves to climb all over. i know it can be hard to control your kids but come on, there are tired people who need to sit stubborn.gif or when they use up those seats to put their bags and kids' jackets on. what the f*ck?

i always put my bag in my lap or on the floor...when the train is kind of empty i put my feet up on the side of the seats. it pisses me off that everyone else gets away with taking up so much space. once, it was easter and i made this really nice easter basket and it was heavy and i didn't want it to get damaged so i put in on the seat next to me. there was like 6 extra seats on that train and this policeman made me put it on the floor.
