^ Agh, I do not like that guy. Haha.

I think singing is definitely a gift...I mean, of course you can improve your skills, but that's only to a certain extent.

Anyone can sing well. Anyone! You can't be tone deaf (unless you have a rare disease..forgot its name)

So anyone can sing well, even me! Just you need that born talent to sing wonderfully and be the cream of the crop.

I believe it's a gift but like Gigi said with much practice one could learn how to sing. Mind you, learning and being blessed with such a gift will turn out different results. I don't think that one who was only taught to sing would be able to reach the extent of the singer who was blessed with the talent. Essentially though, anyone CAN sing. It is a matter of if one can sing well or not. Then again, who is to say what a 'good' singer sounds like? la la la, those are my random thoughts :]

This is a pretty tough question... I agree with Gigi and Chrissy because technically anyone can sing with enough practice and will. Also, there are people who have different singing voices than their natural voice.

You got Britney Spears--her talking voice sounds the same as her singing voice, imo. Same goes for Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan

Then you got Christina Aguilera--her talking voice sounds different from her singing voice. Sames goes for Celine Dion and all those other singers...

Some people are born with the natural gift for singing, while others, with enough practice as well as changes in their voice (puberty, etc.) over time, they can learn to sing better.

Plus, we all have different opinions of singers. Oh yea, I heard that some famous singers can't sing that well, but there's a way to make them SOUND better than they truly sound. Hmm...

haha actually i was thinking about this today. Currently I am taking voice lessons, and i found that my voice improves more and more as the months go by...It's starting to sound better at auditions. But then there are people that are just naturally good, they just have this gift and passion inside of them. No one can teach you that. It's like hearing whitney houston sing a song, and then have someone else hit the same notes, but it isn't as good. She's got this wonderful talent and it captivates you. I believe you need to have the Drive, The Talent, and The Technique and Practice as well. If you have all those 3 things then you are golden :)

i believe everyone can sing. its just that some people have better vocal chords due to genetics xD haha and music is just saying out words longer and raising your up and down (like from elf!) hehe

i think its a gift. generally, anyone can sing but it is a matter of how well you can sing.
people can be trained to be better though, but they still wouldn't be as good as the naturally born great singer.

If someone's singing voice is gifted or practiced, both ways can produce some really good singers. However alot of amateurs are way better than professionals.

I think everyone is born with the ability to do whatever they want, but it depends on whether a person nurtures their voice and practices. If you can recognise your own ability and get in touch with your voice, I think anyone can sing well. But some people have a gift for singing, because they don't have to try as hard. I personally think singing has to come along with performing.

definitely a gift...not from god. ( based on my beliefs ) but i do believe that you are born with a natural talent for singing and can't be taught to have a good voice.

Everyone can sing. It's not that much of a gift- but like anything- it takes practice. It all depends on relativity though. It just happens to be that humans like a certain kind of note rather than another. It's kind of like smell....We like perfume and don't like poop, but for dogs it's the other way around. Just like we can see in color and they can't. So, singing is just controlling what we think sounds good. No one can of course be born with a natural sound that everyone finds pleasant, but they can of course channel it by practice. It also depends on the vocal cords... wacko.gif Because of this long explaination, everyone can probalby tell that I'm not good at singing myself blink.gif

I think singing can be pretty overrated. Music is supposed to make people happy, and if singing in the shower in twenty different keys makes someone happy, then leave him be. :P It always makes me smile when I pass people on the highway and they're so completely lost in their own little world that they don't realize everyone can see them rocking out to whatever's on their radio.

Good singing can be defined as the ability to stay within the desired key and hit close to exact frequencies at close to exact moments. Not everyone can do this. My dad used to hold me in his lap and we'd sing together all the time when I was little. Although it may seem to me that singing comes naturally, I have to keep remembering that if it wasn't for him I'd probably have no musical abilities whatsoever. I'm 18 now, and I've been doing this ever since I learned that my throat made weird sounds upon my command.

So. Because of this, I won't say that singing is a 'gift'. Although it does seem to run in a lot of families, it probably isn't genetics as much as the way the kid was raised. I sucked at playing the flute when I first started, but six years later I somehow struggled all the way to state. Practice makes perfect. wink.gif

I think it's a gift, honestly.
You could get better at singing if you practice, though, but with voice TALENT it's most likely a gift from God.
