Okay, so I watched a video on this in health class today...haha. All right, the question is: are men and women born differently? Or has our society made it seem that way? Why do girls automatically play with Barbie dolls and boys like violence? Why do women remember landmarks better than guys, and guys can work better with maps? Just little things like that...are we truly born different? Womens' rights activists say our society just makes it seem that way. Scientific stuides prove otherwise. I don't know what to think about this yet...what do you have to say about it?

well humans just adopt to it, like why do you wear clothes the way you do, because you see people that do it. that is personally what i think, and most guys like violence, not all though. yep, so that is what i think, kathleen.

why does kathleen like johnny depp? same thing.

^ I agree with her.

Good topic...I don't really know exactly what to sya with it htough

But...when I was little, I would always have little fanitsys, I had a wild imagionation. I would use my imagionation on barbie dolls. My borther would use his imagionation, and play video games...I think it's kind of how you use it *possibly* and maybe a little instinctive.
Of course, i played a lot of videp games as a kid, and my borhter acutally played barbies with me. Its a mistery I suppose

I agree that guys and girls are born differently, we're different when it comes to some things. Too many stereotypes get pushed around though. I just think our thinking patterns and reasoning are a bit different, thanks to mr and ms horomones.

We are nurtured differently...Boys are taught that if they get a injury they need to toughen up but for girls it's ok to cry, it's probably a mix of nature (biological) and nurture (how your raised)..

Well, most of it is stereotypical, and some of its from genes.

If I have the time, I'll type out somthing for you guys, but I'm feeling really sick right now <-- head cold

Anyways, boys and girls have different simulations in their brains. <-- Saw it in the discovery channel

i say it is nurture because we teach little girls to play with dolls and play house and what not. While being into sports is more focused on guys. It depends on who raises you

Hmm...you know, though, when they tested babies, they put them away from their mothers, in this pen, almost, and at first, it was only the boys that were aggressive, and the girls would cry. It wasn't always like that, though...even a few of the boys cried, and later, the girls would become aggressive.

Furthermore, did anyone know that sometimes girl fetuses in the womb can be exposed to more testosterone and become something known as a pH girl (I think it was), where they're still girls, but ultimately are what we call tomboys.

Another thing, as I said, I don't know what to think about this. I love violence. I like playing sports...

Haha it was funny...in the video, they were saying women are naturally better peacemakers and speakers...they were saying the world might be a better place if more women were in charge, politcally-wise. laugh.gif

I think it's just the world now. Boys are expected to be aggresive and girls to be smarter than boys and to get them out of trouble =)

Haha I've heard that stereotype before. I think because of the fact that girls mature faster than guys, they're more likely to perform better in school before guys actually become mature. ermm.gif

girls have an XX chromosome and boys have XY - that's the only fundamental difference

Yes, but does that ultimately change the way we think, and enables us to have certain skills in things compared to the opposite sex?

Well.. not necessarily.. i mean, yes, there will be differences, but i think that society stereotypes far too heavily and thus also influences their development.. i mean, if say a boy and a girl were each placed in separate environments disjointed from society, their development would likely be similar

Its like constantly hearing things about oneself, and then slowly becoming what you hear.. whether we like it or not, we cannot deny that everything we encounter in our surroundings affects us in some way and changes the people we are

Well, until scientists can fully understand the information stored in DNA, I won't be able to answer your question. But the extra bit of chromosome in XX compared to XY does make females the "stronger" sex.

If you look in nature, females are usually dominant over males. For example, a female praying mantis is much larger than the male and the male gets eaten by the female after it has laid the eggs. It does not appear to be so in the human world, but it is said that if a male went through the pain of giving birth, he will most likely not be able to cope with it. Females also live longer as well.

Usually.. and it looks like you're mainly discussing physical strength and endurance.. that's just one aspect.. there are so many other areas, you cant just say one sex is better than another simply because of physical endurance

I'm not saying whether one is better or worse. I'm just stating that the extra bit of chromosome does give females some advantage - such as they're less likely to be haemophiliacs. I'm not going to bother explaining why, because it'll take too long - if you would like to know, go read up on some genetics or something. In a strictly scientific view, the only difference between males and females is the XY and XX chromosomes in our DNA.

Alright, that works.. but the advantage isnt very much

Ok, that very last part I'll agree with
