Again, I will state that the catastrophic effects of nuclear warfare are overemphasized, thanks to propaganda efforts by the Soviet Union and United States. The fact is, although nuclear weapons have great destructive capability, they will not end the world.

Nuclear weapons have great retaliatory capability. The people in charge know this. They will try to destroy the other country's nuclear weapons before targetting population centers. Hiroshima was different, we had a monopoly on nuclear weapons, so we could afford to go straight for a population center. The situation is different now.

When they test their nukes, they always release the explosion when it hits the ground which causes the dust and is the incorrect way. The correct way is to release right before it hits the ground, which is what the US did in Japan. Just because a country has nukes, it doesn't mean they know how to use them.

China is the fastest growing country and power, and actually I see them as a threat. Although they don't seem like much now, I wouldn't be surprised if many years from now, China had control of the US. But that's just my opinion.

Source? I know India did underground testing, and yes, airburst is a more efficient means, but surely they have the sense to realize this. Even still, airbursting usually results in the fireball hitting the ground. In fact, because it hits the ground, fallout is less likely to spread over a wider area. Not only would the explosion be less effective (since damage is done by the shockwave crushing things from above), but the radioactive particles would mix with the particles from the ground, making them heavier than air.
