I know we've all said "Life sucks." before.
But the thing is, everyone feels as if "life sucks".
I hate how some people think that their problems are so superior to other people's problems. I do that. Like my problem is worse than everyone else's problem. I mean, everyone's all "well, there are other people a lot worse than you are." and i agree, there are. there are the people who have diseases and are fighting for their life to live, and then there are the depressed whiny bitches who feel they have to suicide because they can't go on with life anymore.

but honestly, i know it's shallow and self-centered, but i don't really care about those people. those people that i don't know and are in worse off conditions than i am. how am i supposed to help them? i can't help everyone with their problem.

bah.

and i know we're all "depressed" at one time or another, but do you feel bad for those people who are? i mean, there are the real people who are really diagnosed with depression, but everyone's been depressed at one point or another and the only person who can help you is yourself.

sorry, rant. just something that went on with me and my friend and it got me pissed. i don't know if it belongs here or relationships so i'll keep it here.

Emmie, not you. Heh.
I meant an IRL friend.

Is that certain friend me?
I wasn't depressed about third period. Well, maybe a little.
The insults can get to you after a while, yaddamean?
=) But rest assured, I would never commit suicide, or even cut myself. None of that for me. It's just, life goes on.

Yeah I am diagnosed with depression and I hate it when people say they are depressed. They don't know the meaning of depression. They are just sad.

I agree with you on the superior problems thing

It's so horrible how people find it that they can look down on people with worse lives and "feed off their sadness to make them feel better about themselves".

Judging whether someone has a right to be sad is a horrible thing. When someone told me I had nothing to be depressed about, I become even MORE depressed. Ever since then, I empathize with my friends and never tell them to get over themselves. And if someone wants suicide, don't say their stupid. Maybe they really CAN'T go on with life. So what if there other people with worse cases that survived? Maybe they're just stronger like that because they've always been on their own. It's not a matter of stupidity or ignorance but a matter of strength in the inside.

i hate it when people act all depressed and stuff and aren't. they're always saying "i have depression, i have depression." if they really had it, i'd listen to their problems and everything, but most people just say it so other people will listen to them and feel bad for them. like the superior problem thing.

its as if they are god and we are his people and everything is wrong with them deserves our full attention, or they are not loved. nothing against depressed people, but there are lines.

you don't have to be diagnosed to be depressed.

and my problems are the most imporatant, to me at least. before you save others you should always save yourself, unless saving both is not possible and then a choice should be made.

and quite frankly, if the starving kid in africa doesn't give a shit about me, and i've got problems to deal with, why should i ignore my problems to help some kid in africa?

i mean, if i don't have any problems to deal with, sure i'll help.

but in my universe, my problems always seem to affect me the most, so those are the most important.

I knew a girl who cut herself cause her boyfriend who she "loved" so much broke up with her. this stuff went down in 8th grade, come on -- 8th grade. she told everyone how she cut herself and she also showed them the scars and stuff. mellow.gif worst thing is she sat next to me in this one class and it annoyed the dfuisobnhdfioun out of me how much she talked about cutting herself i wanted to knock her right in the face to give her a reality check. yawn.gif sigh, we were real close in 7th grade too.

I don't think everyone believes life sucks. I, for one, am pretty content with life, and never say that it sucks. It has its down points, yes, but I'm better off than most people, and I'm content with that.

The issue of concern for others is an interesting one. I used to be a big advocate of trying to "save the word", from everything from hunger to violent crime. The fact is, the world, overall, is a harsh place--but to say it sucks is an overstatement. A lot of bad things happen in the world, but a lot of good things happen, too. Just because people choose to focus on the bad, rather than the good, does not mean the entire world sucks. Yes, bad things happen everyday, but overall, my life is pretty good.

My philosophy is this: rather than trying to "save the world," people should just worry about protecting themselves and those important to them. That sounds selfish at first, but look: everyone has someone that cares deeply about him. If you simply care for the ones you love the most, then everyone in the world would have someone watching over them.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't do little things to help, such as donate food or clothing or try to cut back on pollution, but people often think on too grand of a scale. So yes, I think if a people would worry about themselves and those closest to them, the world would be a better place.

In terms of depression, I think it is disgusting the number of "depressed" people who draw attention to themselves and create bad name for people who really are depressed. It makes it infinitely harder for such people to seek treatment for their disease. Overall, a lot of people in the world are a bit too melodramatic.

I used to feel exactly the same way as you and then i volunteered a little and my outlook was completely different, oonce you have understanding of other people, you really do start to care, and the best part is that then you do not feel like everything is such a big deal.
