Yeah, y'know... I don't get that. It seems as though girls are the only ones that get hurt in break ups. I know it sounds evil, but what would I know. I'm a girl and whenever I've broken up with a guy, I've been torn apart and they tend to just... shrug it off and get on with their lives whilst we isolate ourselfs and feel like we'll never ever be able to move on - like it's the end of the world. lmfao.
Well, if guys really must know *shruggles* |

QUOTE(FREEcandies @ Sep 25 2005, 1:42 PM) Yes, guys do cry. You aren't human if you don't cry about anything at all. If you don't cry, then how are you capable of smiling and frowning? It's just society has put such an emphasis specifically on guys crying that many think they can't or shouldn't or shouldn't let others see. First, you should never stop yourself from crying. BUT there are times when you shouldn't let someone see you cry. And that is when you're going through a breakup. As a guy, you should never let a girl see you cry when you guys are breaking up. When girls see a guy cry (over them), it tugs at their heart like crazy and it makes them want to stay. However, they're only staying because they feel bad, not because they want to. If you want to find out how they really feel, don't cry to them. Go home and cry to your pillow. Losing a loved one is hard, and crying is sometimes the best thing you can do when you have no one to talk to. Talk to your pillow and let your tears be the words. In time, you will get tired of crying and life will be better. PS. Just because a guy moves on with his life (has a new girl) after he cried over one does not necessarily mean his tears are insincere. It jus means he's moved on with his life. Thats perfectly true. I think I almost cried once. It was kind of a hurt beyond crying. The kind where you find out your girlfriend of two weeks agreed to go out with another guy without even thinking about how she was giong out with you. Yeah. |

I remember crying hard in a relationship in which I was deeply in love. Remember calling up my best friend right after, don't think I even said Hi or anything before just bursting out in tears.
The one and only guy I dated was a really senisitive guy (I'm bisexual). He cried when he found out he was in love with me and i with him. Cried when I broke up with him because I wasn't sure how I felt, and cried sometimes after that when he got confused and just wanted me back. It's been 3 or 4 months ago, and I think both have really strong feelings for each other and are still communicating, but we haven't been back together. The quickest start in a relationship I've ever seen, we fell in love literally over night, and broke up the next day. I think the whole masculine-retardo stereotype and role of men is ridiculous. I'm sure women go through more physical pain in life, but I think guys go through more emotional pain, mostly because they don't have as many exits because our society's view on masculinity is stupid. How often do guys go to their guy friend to talk about something they are upset about? Plus, the not being able to cry in front of someone is stupid idea, too, besides the crying in front of someone and making them feel guilty thing, that makes sense. But that is your choice, if you get that from girls a lot, do the same thing back. Do it and then reject them. You guys are mostly young and in young relationships, when you get into serious ones, it isnt going to make a difference whether you cry or not, the woman probably won't change her mind. I had to learn how to cry, because for me, I had to let it go. From about 14 to 16, I underwent depression, and I rarely did it ever come out in tears. It came out in sitting completely still, not saying anything, not doing anything. But towards the end of the depression I went through, I had something a little more expressive, convulsions. I only had one episode and I lost consciousness, and it was in the car with my mom sitting right beside me, she was driving, not me. I remember when I was 17 I would get really upset about something at school, and would stop myself from crying. The result wasn't good, by the time I got home, I couldn't cry, it was all anger. I laid down in bed, and I would lay there for awhile. My emotions would build up, and instead of crying I had fits, i would burst out violently. I would kick and hit and punch in every direction. I was conscious during these, but lost control over my body. I had two of these episodes, on the second my mom heard me, she thought i had fallen down the stairs, and we have a long staircase with walls on both sides. Personally, I don't know about you other guys or what you girls think guys should do, but I prefer crying. Another thing i want to say about macho-retardism, is that i think it takes a tougher man to stand out against stupid things. A guy in my biolgy class my freshman year in high school, drank some chemical that was used to preserve fetal pigs for dissecting, he had to go to the hospital and have his stomach pumped. And I don't mean in just stunts like this, but any. I wouldn't do that for a dollar, and I'm sure that isnt the reason the guy did it either. He was probably dared by guys, and did it so he looked cool and tough. Well, I think it takes a tougher guy to not be so assertive and willing to be a complete imbecile for his pride. Don't tell people push you around and decide what you can and can't do just because you are a man, same goes for women. Guys get hurt, guys get discriminated against (more and more frequently nowadays), guys have rights issues, guys get sexual coerced and raped, as well as sexually assaulted in many different forms, and guys have a suicide rate, across all ages, that averages to 7 times that of women. A guy crying in public should be ashamed, but not of himself, but of our society's ridiculous stereotypes of a man. |

great post. i totally agree, there's just as much pressure and discrimination on men as with women. Ive never seen an ex cry when we've broken up...but yeah dudes do cry. i was talkin to a friend of mine a few days back, he's just broken up with his girlfriend, and yeah he's pretty damn upset. |

it depends how serious the relationship, if the guy only asked her out just for the heck of it they probably would have no feeling for her. if he really liked her he would prolly cry

Not necessarily, people become attached at different rates and times in relationships. Could be years before you really feel close to that person, could be overnight. |
