Heh, I'm Chinese and yet I still have trouble distinguishing the difference between asians. Like I can't tell them apart, you know?

Meh. Those who don't know me and see me for the first time, some think I'm a bit mixed. But they don't know mixed with what. LOL. Like it's just the features on my face. But in terms of photographs, I look like pure asian.

:takes deep breath:

No I am not Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Lao, Cantonese, Korean, Taiwanese... [the list goes on 'til I forget most of them]

But I am VIETNAMESE!

It happens to us to. I know it's annoying for everyone. It happens to whites, someone will call someone who is Irish- English or American-Canadian. I think it happens with everyone.

But people just call me white. ermm.gif

this reminded me of this one day at a museum when i was with my family.

this little chinese boy says (in mandarin) "mommy!! they're chinese too!" and his mother replies (in mandarin) "no, they're korean. don't point". but the thing is... i AM chinese. and i understood them too, so i had to laugh.

RACISM!!!!

Meh. If people get my background mixed up, I'm not going to give a damn. They could assume I'm decended from the English, which "im actually much less of thn things like Italian, Irish and German, but I mean, I don't care.

I also don't understand how calling Asians "Oriental" is offensive. Because, well, they are. That's the Orient, this is the Occident. Go ahead, call me an Occidental. Oh no? I'm going to get extremely offended that you recognize my heritage stems from the western hemisphere rather than the eastern one. Yes. Absolutely. While you should know what you are, I don't think it makes that much difference if someone else jumps to the wrong conclusion.

ut of course, being white, I must just not understand rolleyes.gif

m&ms are candy, but candy isn't nesscicarily m&ms...

which brings me to... what kind of candy is eye candy? i don't think it's chocolate, that'd be more of cuddly, feelgoodness.

i think it's more of a sugary joltish...

pixi stix?

so insubstantial...

^

you, are mistaken.

taiwan was historically an island province of china. it had a slightly different culture, slightly difffent genetics, but there was general contact and exchange of ideas and genes.

after the revolution, and the subsequent defeat of chaing's army, many nationalist chinese immigrated to the island of formosa, and took over the island.

subsequently, two pretty close enthicities were futher mixed.

grew up in dunwoody. ish.

early childhood was there.

then moved to the dallas fort worth mextro area.

the two places i indentify with the most are where i live now, and atlanta. i really began to develop into who i am here, but the foundation was laid in atlanta. dallas was just an inbetween few years that didn't really influence me much.

No, actually, a lot of it's pretty rich. Most people in that area go to the really expensive private schools because they can afford them and because the public schools in Dunwoody are crap.

My church (err) is in Dunwoody. So is this really great little Italian deli across from the church. Hmmm. I think the part I drive though most often is actually "unincoorperated Sandy Springs."

ahh well that would be why i thought dunwoody was poor. i went to public school.

before that i had gone to weslyan christian private school.

so yea.

i've gone to see my old house, and it's in a pretty average neighborhood. there are newer neighborhoods popping up around it tho, i think.

it's been a while since i've been there.

i remeber watching the torch pass in 96! yea, it came right by the entrance to my subdivision... and there were tones of people adn it was hot and then we saw the people and then the one who stopped took pictures with everyone and all...

I grew up in a very Asian-populated area, so when I meet asian people, since I am not, I always guess what country they are from, and I'm usually right! :) But I think labelling somone is derrogetory, even if that person is Chinese.....
