QUOTE okay, take a gander in your hostory book. all it is is white people. the only thing you read about black people is slavery and thomas crowe laws. the only time you read about asia is when whitey bombed them in WWII and again in vietnam. every month is white history month. thats not true. though its doesnt seem like a lot, its constantly brought out. you never have a chance to forget about it. you learn about african history in global connections. slavery is a huge issue in world history. you talk about how african americans have constantly had it hard. im not racist, but i do think that sometimes black people constantly play the race card. like in my school there was this one incident where a group of black people were arguing and they used the "n" word. but then a white person saids it and its a race issue. im not saying the word is right, but if one person cant say it, then you shouldnt be allowed to say wigger, or chigger. |

QUOTE thats not true. though its doesnt seem like a lot, its constantly brought out. you never have a chance to forget about it. you learn about african history in global connections. slavery is a huge issue in world history. you talk about how african americans have constantly had it hard. not necessarily, its talked about more(but not that much) in american history, not world history. for example, in my world history class we didnt talk about slavery at all. through out the year we studied stuff such as, the rising a falling of rome, the start of christianity, the start of buddism, the start of the muslim religion, Stalin, Hamurabi,Egypt, organized war formations of those times, alexander the great, greek mythology, jesus and etc. we never talked about slavery, we got around to the holocaust (because kids kept on asking if we were gonna talk about it), but not slavery. for some reason when ever any kind of african american history is brought up like once, people seem to be like "SEE!? we do talk about black people!" then quickly move on to another subject. because really, who wants to hear about their own race doing a whole lot of wrong for a long period of time? some may argue "but egypt is in africa!", but if you think about it, egyptians arent really depicted as "black" they are more depicted as bronze skinned people with fair hair. such as this...click here not really black. |

Perhaps that was because slavery was a much bigger issue in America. Other European countries had it, but not for nearly as long as we did, and there wasn't such a big commotion over it seeing as Europe's main source of income wasn't cotton. They got all their cotton from us. Why would you go over something you had learned the year before/will learn the year after in great detail when you have an entire planet's history to cover? They definitely include races other than white. In World History, I didn't learn about black people in America (because I already had), but I learned about Africa's conflicts. The tribes who had fought and had wars and the large famines..last year in World History C (Civil War and up) we discussed the situation in Rwanda and the situation in Africa right now, where the lighter-skinned Africans are performing genocide on the darker-skinned Africans (Not white people? Amazing...) and we reviewed the trade routes from Africa to the Middle East and Asia and we studied the imperialism of Europe on Africa and how that affects Africa today and how Africa would have been so much better off without it and we studied the conflict in South America when the Dutch moved in and the more recent aphartide prohibition.... We definitely did not study whites the whole time. That was only the African studies. We studied a lot about Asia and the Middle East and the Aborigines and South America too. |

no, im not saying how its all wrong that they arent talking about black people that much in world history. i can understand them not actually, i just said its talked about more in american history than world history. because the girl bove me before said "slavery is a huge deal in world history, and you constantly talkabout how blacks have had it hard" and its really not considered as a huge deal actually. and you definately dont talk about how blacks constatly had it hard. atleast in comparison to the Earth's history.
so yeah, i agree with you QUOTE im not racist, but i do think that sometimes black people constantly play the race card. you shouldnt talk about balck people like they arent here. plus your generalizing. QUOTE like in my school there was this one incident where a group of black people were arguing and they used the "n" word. but then a white person saids it and its a race issue. im not saying the word is right, but if one person cant say it, then you shouldnt be allowed to say wigger, or chigger. for one thing, something i always need to say in this type of situation. is when one black people call eachother nigga the reason its different is because when a black person calls another black person a nigger its not taken as seriously because they're both "niggas". one thing i dont get is why a white person would even want to say the word too ![]() ![]() |

slavery didn't begin with blacks, and it won't end with blacks. In the good old days, whenever the stronger army sacked a city, they would take anyone fit to work as slaves...humanity has always had slavery. Africans in America is simply the latest example of this on a big scale. Human slavery still happens today. In this case, why not give every race that were put under slavery there own month? Black history month has nothing to do with world history. Slavery in general has something to do with it though.

its just the color of your skin! it doesnt effect anything! all it means is that your ancestors were from a place where the sun shined a bit brighter. all these race related topics make no sense to me. |

I agree, we even have hispanic heritage month. I want a time to be proud of both being white and being hispanic. I'm half and half and there are lots of those. It's not racist having pride in your heritage, not for hispanic so why be a hypocrite and say it's racist?
But then again we learn american history in school isn't itwhat we always learn? The only time I hear about hispanics is in Spanish clas sand tha'ts either for Spain or mexico. There's so many countries and only one USA, so teaching our history is easier thatn teaching every other countries histoyr, so giving them regonition is kind of balancing the scale, to me at least. QUOTE native american history doesnt' cover the last 500 or so years of american history, which is dominated by white people. like it or not, it's the white people who built america, it's the white people who made it great. Not just the white people, it's buolt upon everyone, of all races. Christopher Columbus wasn't white, well in a sense he was, he was italian. And he was on an expidetion for The Queen on Spain. And Balboa the, he was the first to site the Americas and the Pasific, which is why Panama's money is named after him, he was a governer ^^. A wil Panama histry there. Sry. |

QUOTE(,Sep 4 2005, 1:50 AM) okay, lets say there was a white history month. what the hell would we learn about? everything we would learn about would be something we already learned many many times. at least with history months for hipanics and african americans, you actually learn stuff u you never knew before. i mean, come on . we all know that america is mostly comprised of caucasions right? therefore when we learn about something in history, it is most likely going to be a caucasion person(s) . so really, what need is there to be a white history month? the purpose of black history month is to learn more about another culture and for blacks to even learn about their own, its not a pride thing. caucasions dont have a "month" yet we know more about their culture and history than any other. so again, what need is there of a white history month? i can probably get more answers correct in a contest about white history than i can black. serious, and i know im not the only one. so, now, lets say we didnt have a black history month. it is fair to say we would know much much less. There is no need of a white history month, and we all know it. this has just turned into a pride thing."we want a month too." just to have a month. its not like they go in black history month "oh yeah we're black, black's the way to be! oh ya" no, all they do is just throw some history facts at you. about the civil rights. and alittle slavery stuff. some of the arguments ive seen in here were just plain silly. if there really was even a real question of there having to be a white history month, people would actually be talking about it, besides some kids on cb. so one more time, close your eyes and think about it, what if there was suddenly a white history month tommorow? what would we learn? hmm george washington? no we know about that, chris columbus? nah we heard about him hundreds of times. all of our presidents? nope we know about that too. astronauts?authors?painters? inventors?Stars?war veterans? etc. eh all the major ones i can think of are.... wow, white. im done ![]() basically, having a white history month in america is like having a japanese history month in Japan. or an cuban history month in cuba, or an chinese history month in china, or an italian history month in italy, or an middle eastern history month in the middle east. its uneeded and contradictory. a better debate would be should they have a white history month in some other country, not america. and "raccoons>you"(james) said whites are being over compensary to blacks. you say it like white folks in the higher ups just handed out black history month like "here ya go ![]() |

Why should other countries have to learn about the U.S? Especially if the USA doesn't want to learn about them though?
As my teacher said today, other countries are forced to learn the English language, while do we have to learn Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, German? If a mexican (My step-dad's mexican I have nothing egainst them, most are related to me somehow) came to the United States and didn't speak English they would be shunned and they're already shunned for trying to make a better living for themselves. People vaction all the time in different countries yet most don't know the language. We have other histories because it's easy to group them all in one. Other countries know about USA history, seeing as they're the most powerful country and alot of the countries have been included in that history. Africans by slavery, stelrization of hispanics, and the Japanese with being put in camps like the Jews, Did you even know that's not in the text book? And JEWES, alot of people claim that the Holocaust didn't even happen! How many of you knew that? Seriiusly, my family down in Panama knows alot about the USA and doesn't need a special month for it. |

._. Edit. Evan, you f**king slut. You beat me. D:< Just to add something, other countries learn a lot about the US because of what you mentioned yourself. We're a leading power in the world. They have to know about us. This post has been edited by ermfermoo: Oct 31 2005, 09:59 PM |

Danggit I forgot to add that you ave to learn a differnet language in college, I meant our language is the hardest, yet we automatically expect people to know it. And I feel left out, you people ar elucky I got plcked into the worl'ds most racist town. My mom was accused of stealing from the super market here.....T_T
I don't like knwoing about the United States when all they did was step on people to get to power hat I do respect and am proud of is that we took power and is a democracy even today. So people can't expect us to be perfect. Like the hispanic race or the african american race, they're not perfect either. We all have flaws and we all desevre our own month.... |

In most schools though you have a choice in whether you learn a different language and if there were that many months school would kill me. T_T I would refuse to go.
Listen: This kid in my class get's to give people checks that are talking, the only black girl in our school and of course he decided to bug her. ANd just becuase she was black, he just called me mexican too. ![]() And I meant as in month as in Hispanic month African American, whi can't we have White Heritage month, it didn't just start in the USA it goes back waaaaaaaayy back. |

ok, last time i checked (which was around pg. 15-ish) everyone was supporting a no months sort of thing. no special recognization of any particular race, because that promotes racism, and dissuades unity.
well. im still going for that. |

How about screw any race month. The only race in america, is the American race. I propose American history month. Not only do caucasian american get theirs in the fact that they are the majority, african americans in history also get recognized.

If there was to be a white history month it would mean having to look at the truth of what white history is really about. I think it is fair to suggest that white history hasn't been celebrated because it is still forever present. Has anyone ever considered why it hasn't happened? If anyone has the answer then please tell me...

My mom isn't american and there are alot of immagtrants, they may be american citizens but they aren't american. You wouldn't undestand because you are american always have been and always will be. The answer that we don't learn about american history is because we would need to know all of the truth and nothing but the damn truth,, like the sterlization of hispanics, or people putting Japanese in concentration camps, theres alot of history that people don't know about and don't believe. And the american goverment wants to be viewed as good, so it's like: Oh well we made people free, we let people come to our country, why should all those bad things get out? Which in fact, isn't true, my aunt has had her left arm cut off because she was shot while trying to cross the U.s border on a train, she fell and her arm got caught, it didn't get completly cut off, so they had to amuptate, tell me that the american's are like the nicest people. They wouldn't give her a pass to come for even a month with my mother as her sponser. Thank god for people like Laura (Said with an accent). |
