hah, the cradle looks like an E-mac. lol.
Its quite nice, definatly going to be a contender with the Ipod. (at least its making me re think my wish list... New Ipod.. or that...hmmm)

Do you think it will support Itunes / Mac ? Then it would really be the Ipod competitor.
*

iRiver products weren't really known for going with the Mac.

New iPod? You mean the Nano? Well, the only reason I can see you going with that is cause you own a Mac.

No not the Nano, I mean a 4th Generation Ipod, I have an old black & white one.

And I looked at the U10 more, and I like it less. The Direct Click seems like it would be annoying if you just bumped it, you'd click s something. Not sure, I'll have to go see it sometime and touch it.

Still thinking the Cradle bears a striking resemblance to the E-mac.

Yeah if you bump it there might be a few problems, but that's what the lock switch is for...

Tempting.. It looks so cute.. WHY DIDN'T I SEE THIS TOPIC... Bleh.. They both look so sexy.. Why did you guys have to find a picture of them both next to each other? pinch.gif

As for the nano.. It is really sexy... But the website makes the iriver look equally sexy... But it has more components. Do you know the battery life of the iRiver? I have a nano and it does actually play for 14 hours... but sometimes I think it the battery lasts longer, and other times it feels like it's less than it should be. Dunno.

Also, I heard that 1/10 of 1% of all nanos are defect. And after being on the apple discussion forums, there are a lot of problems. If more of this occurs in the future, we'll all probably take that second glace at the iRiver and maybe even buy it too... It looks sexy.. :O So small... The iRiver PWNS the ipod video in style. But the iRiver doesn't have as much space.. :[

.. of course, I'm not specifying models or anything.

Oh yea and iEVEN THOUGH the Nano looks fricken sexy, it scratches like hell, so you might want to consider that factor.

^ They said the the new U10 has up to 28 hours of battery life, although that's if you put it on shuffle mode and leave it alone. Although if you play around with it a lot, cut it's battery life in half. I would know, my H10 says it has about 14 hours of battery life, however I only get 7 because I'm always changing songs. The lightning on my H10 takes a lot out of my space.

I don't like iPod batteries because they only last for about a year and a half, and getting it refurbished isn't cheap. My H10s battery is only about a year and a half too, although I can order an H10 battery for about $50, whereas getting the iPod refurbished is like $150 + shipping and handling.

Actually the price is $200 for the 512 MB and $250 for the 1 GB.

I believe iRiver has also confirmed they are making an 8 GB version.

Well...pshhhh. I thought this was actually supposed to be some kind of major innovation, but why would I want something so small? (not size, capacity)

8 gb is the largest microdrive (1 inch) currently avalible.

as for capacity nicki, it's estimated that the average ipod user has only 120 songs on thier ipod.

sure, it includes the people with shuffles, but it also includes people with 60 gb ipods who have it full up.

yea. most people aren't intersted in really using an ipod for what it's worth, it's a fashion statement, or just cool, or something along those lines.

these same people who are more inclined to buy ipods are the same people that are more inclined to simply have the most popular songs on thier ipods.

Yeah....I may have bought an ipod, but I did mass amounts of research beforehand and decided it fit my needs best. I have no songs that are actually massively popular right now, and I have no interest in changing that. I don't understand those people. At all.

I think there's often a certainl elitism with people who encourage others not to buy iPods, too. There seems to be a mentality that if you don't go along with the crowd, you are somehow more enlightened or intelligent. It's similar to the idea that if you only listen to "underground" music and nothing popular, you are somehow a better person.

A lot of people I know think listening to indie makes them more interesting, too, which is crap. (Personally, I avoid mainstream junk because I don't like it, not because that makes me better). I agree with you, on the whole not buying an ipod thing, definitely.

The reason I didn't buy an iPod because of the lack of features (for my needs of course). I didn't not buy it because of the whole popularity trend thing. Aside from that I didn't really like the click wheel.

there are trends then there are anti-trends which are just trends for people who hate trends.

but i know that that's true. my friend had a 40 gb ipod and she didn't even use a gig of it- she sold it and was going to buy a nano, but now might get an ipod with video.

will she ever use it? probably not.

and certainly, going against the crowd is letting the crowd influence you.

however, i used ipods simply becasue that's what the data's on. i'm sure it's the same with most other MP3 players, i just didn't see that data.

i see what you guys are talking about. but i dunno about about that "better person" talk. Like i dont see how it makes you a better person if you listen to different music. To me it doesnt make sense but would you care to explain?

What i think is that if you listen to indie music you have your own mind but i dont think your better than anyone else out there. i think that is kind of wrong to say that people are better in my opinion just for listening to different music.
In my list of songs there is half an half. Music and people that people never ever heard of like German, Korean and very unpopular music, its just what i like. And then there is the occasional popular radio music. As for other media like movies, i watch a lot of unheard of movies. those low budget movies, there are some out there that are really good, then the others are really badd . lol
