Are any of ya'll on Accutane? I have an appointment with my dermy in november to talk to him about it. The thing is..i dont have bad acne. My sister did, and she took it but it also helped a whole lot with oily skin and it closed up her pores all over her body which is why i really want to take it. For those of you who are taking it, are you experiencing any problems with it? I'm afraid it will make me depressed and want to commit suicide...since thats one of the major cautions of taking it. I know im going to talk to my doctor about all this, but I just wanted to know from other peoples opinions that are currently taking it.

nope-but I kno alot of people who do have acne. Try the girl's resource section(pinned) and see what they have for acne-what ever you do don't commit suicide-it is perfectly normal to have acne. But don't kill yourself, because of acne. That would be a stupid thing to die for-I'm sorry but it's true. So try the girls resource section and don't worry it'll eventually go away.

well commiting suicide and depression is actually a side effect of the medicine. It can make you depressed and there have been cases where people have commited suicide because of that. It's not necessarily because you have bad acne. It's just the effect the medicine has one some people. But thanks anyway, i will try the girls resource section!

William used it, but doesn't recommend it. It has a lot of side effects.

Plus, girls have to go on birth control for a month before starting it.

I was on it.
In fact I was on it twice.
The first time it didnt really work.
Then the second timeit worked.
I didnt have to go on birth control because I was only 13 then, and my doctor told me that I dont have to go on it.

They should still have made you go on it. Some 13 year olds are sexually active. You can get pregnant even if you haven't started your period. I'm 16, could not be sexually actie, and they said I'd still have to go on it because they can't follow me everywhere (I found this immensely humorous since I'm the least likely person I know to go and have sex any time soon).

yes, as nicki mentioned i am on it, and i only have 5 days left and i'm DONE. it's exciting.

i had a little more than moderate acne. after the first month, i wouldn't have recommended it, which is what i told nicki, because it hadn't helped that much. since it drys everything up, you have to wear sun screen all the time, and i put lotion on my body/face once in the morning and once at night. i have developed an odd, bloody growth on my toe due to it (this is a very uncommon side effect though). i have to always wear chapstick, it causes bad breath, and you have to get your blood drawn monthly. lastly, it's very expensive (luckily both my parents are doctors, so i was able to get free blood work, check ups, and the insurance covered almost the whole cost of the medicine).

after these last 4 months though, i think i'd recommend it. personally, i'd do this again (and i might have to in the future). my skin is completely perfect. it completely gets rid of all acne, and i probably won't have to deal with it again for years. it's definitely a miracle medicine.

as for suicide/depression, my doctor said that is very rare. the birth control is a big deal for girls though. you have to be on two forms of it i believe, and you have to get tested for pregnancy before it can be prescribed.

just weigh the pros and cons. if your doctor thinks another form of medicine could do the trick just as well, i might try that first before doing this. you do NOT just take a pill and have all your acne removed--it actually requires a lot more maintenance than any other acne medicine i've been on.

i hope this helped.
