Yeah, I got one when I got my current job--it pays via direct deposit, so it requires a checking account. I was seventeen when I got it. Never used it too much until I had to start writing tuition checks.

Most banks offer free checking, don't they?
I've used HSBC since I was 18. I've never really had a problem with them. There is this one bank. They offer free ATM usage no matter which bank's atm you use (if the other bank charges you, they reimburse you for it). I've forgotten which one it was... so if someone can enlighten me... |

Hey I bank with WaMu (Washington Mutual) too. My mom used to work there. I got my checking/savings account like two years ago. I really like them. VISA's are wonderful.

It will probably be with her bank, FKFCU (Fort Knox federal credit union) |

I got mine when I was 15. It's called EECU and it's like a local bank for people that are invovled with the school district.

i'm thinking about going to a credit union. banks and their overdraft fees are heartless. i'm a poor college student and have a lot on my mind. sometimes, i forget that i don't have enough funds for something and get penalized big time.
about the topic, i opened my checking and savings accts with Wellsfargo when I was 18 or 19... i think. |

My checking account is HSBC, and personally since it's a global it's my favorite.

I've had a checking account since I was about...13. Child support checks or whatever go right into it and my mom set it up through Associated Bank (was First Federal). They're not too bad i guess, i don't really pay attention.

Two of my friends work at WaMu :P Well, one of them doesn't work there anymore... but yeah. hah
I've recently just opened my own account at HSBC (I had a joint one with my mom before)... I have everything in checking right now, but I'm going to transfer most of it into savings & probably just leave some in checking. [oh wow, I didn't realize that this thread was over a year old. lol] |

I got my checking account when I was 12 with UNFCU (United Nations Federal Credit Union).
I have full control of it because UNFCU has a pretty good savings account for kids. It doesn't deduct anything, even though I earn 1.25% interest. My parents have to pay taxes for the interest I earn, though. |
