Well, it depends on what type of effect you want to come out with. People like to put the pattern on a new layer or add a pattern overlay in the blending options and play around with the blending modes.

Hi,
Was there any update to this? I am currently working on a logo design and think that adding a pattern would be a great addition. Is there a tutorial reference for this? Thank you, Peter |

Really, you should set your tools to default. That should clear any problem. Besides that, make sure you're not working with an image or anything - just a plain new file.
Also, you may be using too much memory to complete the operation, so close any other programs you have running while working in Photoshop. |
