QUOTE
LONDON — The JiangLing Landwind sport-utility vehicle, one of the first Chinese vehicles to hit a major western market, received the worst-ever score in European safety crash tests.

The two-ton 4x4 scored zero stars in crash tests last week by the ADAC, the German automobile club, which carries out tests for the European market, the Times of London reported.

"It had a catastrophic result," said a spokesman for the ADAC. "In our 20-year history, no car has performed as badly."

The Landwind, which competes against products such as the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, was displayed at the Frankfurt motor show last week and is expected to arrive in British showrooms in a few months. It is already on sale in Germany, Belgium and Holland. A decision has not been made whether to sell the vehicle in the United States.

Safety researchers said a driver would be unlikely to survive a head-on collision at 40 mph in the Landwind.

What this means to you: Delete the JiangLing Landwind from your shopping list. Researchers warn it "belongs in the 1990s in terms of engineering."

I am hoping that this car will not be sold, or at least, be recalled and made safer. People who can't afford safer cars will buy this and die.

well, that's nice.

looks like the chinese auto threat is a little slow off the start. detroit can breath easier.

do you have a video of a five star SUV crash so we can compare?

It doesn't crunch nearly as bad as the Chinese car.

Either that, or they think the cabin and passenger should be part of the crumple zone.

^ Maybe they're sending out a message to be safer while driving and if you're not, then you should die.

Maybe they where on a tight schedule and did not have time, or did not care about the safety of the drivers. It does not matter, it won't be released so it all works out. The insurance companies wont cover it, and no dealer would attempt to try and sell something that could cause them more trouble then what the money is worth.

That's actually a good reason for the shittay rating.

I hear now JiangLang, the company, has sued the ADAC of Europe for that.

I used to think the same way. Why should I spend extra for safety features, when I could just learn to be a better driver? The reason is, you don't have to be a bad driver to get into an accident. The guy next to you can kill you.

Here's a good suicide idea...

Drive that car on a Texas highway and lose focus slightly.
