heh~ This was for English..
A regular 5 paragraph essay.

---

As a narcissistic person, I used to refuse to look up to anyone. It all changed a few years ago, when I begin to know Lee Kyung-yun (popularly known as Ha Ri-su). She was born on February 17, 1975. She is a model, singer, and actress from South Korea. She is very well known in Taiwan and main land China, as well in Korea, after being the first Korean entertainer to come out being a transgender. Because of her sexual identity, there were many questions surrounding her. Nevertheless, she overcomes all the challenges she was facing. In fact, she is one of the most successful transgender entertainers ever. In 2004, she became the first known transsexual person, anywhere in the world, to be featured in an advertisement for women hygiene products. Ha Ri-su’s great achievements opened up a whole new world for transexuality.

Ha Ri-Su was born in Seongnam, a small town near Seoul. As a young boy, he never thought himself as a male. He was raised and treated like a daughter by his mother. At the all-boy Naksaeng High School in Seongnam, he was always considered very feminine. During his high school year, he had a serious relationship with a man - Only separated later because of the social prejudice they experienced. In 1997-98, he moved to Japan and had his transgender surgery over there. What transgender surgery does is basically to transform a person’s sexual identity, male-to-female, for example, which was the case for Ri-su. While there in Japan, she began studying to become a hairdresser, and began singing in Japanese nightclubs. It was while singing in Japan that she got her first break, being recruited by an agent in 1999.

In 2001, she formally changed her name to her current stage name, Ha Ri-su, which is the Korea adaptation of "Hot Issue”, just before featuring in an advertisement for Korea cosmetic company DoDo. She commented about the ad saying that “The concept of the commercial was transgender and I didn't want to lose that chance to debut as a model. I don't want to face people dishonestly. I won't be able to hide it after all. It's better to make it clear from the start". The company was unsure of the reaction the advertisement would have, but it was well received, and ended up launching her career. The media were so astonished by Ha Ri-su’s physique, saying that it was better shaped than any other woman they had used. Some even thought she was actually lying about her transsexuality, and that she was really a genetic woman - the exact opposite to what most transsexual women experience. Since then, Ha Ri-su has quickly branched out into music and acting, among many other things. She has recorded three musical albums, which are “Temptations” (2001), “Liar” (2002) and “Foxy Lady” (2004), switching between techno music and rhythm and blues. In 2001, she starred in the film Yellow Hair 2, for which she also recorded the soundtrack.

Ha Ri-Su is a total reflection of me in almost every way and because of so, I put her as my hero. She is the ideal model whom I hope I would like to be if I was a girl. I admire deeply on her courage to face her reality and take action on what she believes in. The most important part that connects Ha Ri-su and I are the fact that I am feminine as well, and I understood Ha Ri-su’s position as a transsexual. The fact that she is beautiful as well successful makes me feel much more comfortable about my slight feminine orientation. To me, she is like The Speaker for all the people with either slight or heavy transsexual minds. She stood up for all of us, proving that we are not abnormal, and we are not alone. Also, she possess the attitude that all of us similar to her would desire to have, which is reflected in this quote of her "Even if I fail, I have no regret. I will have done what I've wanted all along, and that as a woman. I'll have no regret.”I would love to get transform into a woman, even though my sexual orientation is heterosexual, unlike how Ha Ri-su was. Despite my desire to be a woman, I doubt I would ever be courageous enough to take the transgender surgery, and publicize about it like how Ha Ri-su did. The fact that she’s so honest and proud of being a transgender inspires me greatly. Now I view my slight feminine orientation positively. Now I think cross-dressing and act feminine is sexy and appropriate rather than nonsense and weird. Now I have somebody that completely expresses my personality.

Ha Ri-su is gorgeous. She is often described as “Even prettier, sexier and more glamorous than a woman”. Despite her transsexuality and the family problems she has experienced after her operation, her extraordinary beauty, wonderful body and sheer determination have carried her to career success. She is definitely a woman, and she can be more feminine than any other woman can be. What she achieved as a woman is a significant breakthrough for the universal recognition of transsexuals.
