how can i get rid of text (not links) on my xanga like "member since: date" and the dashes between links? i have tried but it won't support the code.

replace any text script in the scripts section

I may be wrong, but I don't think it's possible unless you use a script to customize the WHOLE module.

Replace any text script or by looking in your source to find the span text.
