brush problem!

all the brushes i download are white when i use them in my photos. is there a way to change the color and if so how??? i use photoshop 7. thanks!

1) Make sure your image isn't on greyscale.
2) make sure you selected a color for the brush.

this might be a stupid question, but how do i select a color for the brush? do i do that when i download the brushes?

No you open photoshop and look on the toolbar. At the way bottom you see two boxes wehre you colors are. Click the box and change the color. Then click the brush tool and choose your brush. Which ever color is on top, is the color that the brush will be. (as long as its not on greyscale or index).
