yea, that's one of those rules, like if it happened to a friend of a friend it must have really happened.

as well as the 'it doesn't matter that they're drunk, if they said it it must be true' rule.

QUOTE
>> Michael Moore's Letter to Bush
  Friday, September 2nd, 2005

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.
Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?
Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her! I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike? And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!
On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.
There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.
No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!
You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,
Michael Moore

P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st. > from Michael Moore's Letter to Bush

i think its horrible how gangs are taking advantage of the situation. it tells us alot of things. anyway

i dont understand why alot of people had no reaction to the tusnami in asia. is it because it did not happen in one of the most powerful nations on the country? or is it be cause it does not effect you? millions of children died, newly built towns and villages were completly destroyed. anyway

it is horrible what happend in new orleans. and there are many many many causes to why there is not enough help being sent to them. most ofwich are bad reasons. such as almost the entire national guard being in iraq. idont know how the US will recover from this.

I bet most of us don't know a lot of it...
So the government doesn't look bad.
So typical.

What I have found most annoying is the ignorance of some people. They think that the people from Louisiana were lazy arses and just didn't want to get out... they don't realize that those people are SHIT POOR and have nothing! Probably not a form of transportation! and how do they expect to find buses, etc if there's going to be a freaking storm? B/c of it, the racism issue really has been in the spotlight.

hmm.. i think the worst is over.. the hard part is gonna be in the next couple of months..

i watch the news alot and it seems like the people of lousianna are getting better.. i heard they are starting to make small communities and most have set up there addresses in the Astrodome..

the actual city of new orleans is bad because there is just some people that refuse to leave.. for example.. people on bourbon street.. the french quarter is fully intact and they just dont want to go.. it's there problem but they are son GOING TO CUT OFF THERE FOOD AND WATER.. which is pretty wild but it will work..

anyways.. thats all i have for now..
*

i second that. ..the VEry worst part of it is all over.. it's just basically coping w/ it now :p

I thought a lot of people did react to the tsunami.
Maybe it just seems that way here in Louisiana..

Yes, I know Hurricane Katrina was an awful natural disaster,
but I am sick and tired of hearing the same stuff over and over again.
Racism blah blah.
Bush sucks blah blah.
The people of New Orleans should have known better blah blah.
It's the mayor's/governor's fault blah blah.
God wanted it to happen blah blah.

People are always going to say something more could have been done.
They are always going to blame the leaders.

I'm just sick of it.

alot might disagree with me [thats fine, it's just my opinion] but some people are blaming bush and i honestly dont think blaming bush entirely is right. i mean what about the states mayor? what the hell has he been doing?

an interview with a government person [not sure of the terminology, sry] [these arent the exact words but something like this]
woman : we are so thankful for the help and support from other states and across america.
reporter : that's great but what are you going to do now?
woman : [...] thank you everyone!

and what about the people complaining about food and water? we know the hurricane blew it all away and i'm terribly sorry but if they've been paying attention to the fricking news, it's been talking about how other hurricane attacked already and that one might be coming to them. so shouldn't they get prepared incase of something happening? maybe pack some water, or a flashlight? it isn't impossible or it is very possible that they will have a hurricane attack. so lets do the run down shall we?

- they have been warned before hand time and time about a possible attack since some states around them have already suffered this situation.
- they don't prepare for what seems to be a reason that a possible hurricane attack is psh paw.
-then they went along to end up blaming bush cause he's the guy that screws everything up isnt it? sure why not but this time it's not his fault now is it. he just happens to piss the weather off and they punish him by sending a hurricane to attack?. right.
- and now they think they have the right to complain because THEY weren't smart enough to plan ahead? ha ha.

couple of months? more like years, or even decades for physical reconstruction

roads arnt meant to be soaked in water for such a long person of time, buildings will fall apart from erosion, the water is full of bacteria and decomposing bodies, also the soil on cemetaries is going to start washing away, burried bodies/bones will come out, once the water is gone there will be yucky mildew and crap everywhere, have to rebuild almost from scratch

another thing, people who built the hospitals down there are stupid, people are complaining, "oh no, power is out and generators arnt working!", then why arnt the generators working? there in the flooded basement!!!!! you think they would put them higher up, at least 3rd floor

There is a predetermined table of names for each hurricane and tropical storm in a given season. I'm not sure who determines that table, though.

The same might be done for typhoons, but I am not certain of this.

Well i'm from LOUISIANA....and I have a first cousin whose family is living at my grandmother's next door right now. Also, my paran lived there and he's lost his job as of right now. He was in SEVERE danger of dying b/c no one was going to rescue his hospital staff....he had to say a few untrue things to get out of the hospital alive. Otherwise, they would have died w/o food or water. My cousin is now enrolled in a nearby school but she only speaks to her friends through emails....The news makes it sounds NICE over there...Its not! My paran told me first hand stories of watching people drown... He watched a father sink under water & just his hand above holding up a baby on a raft...the man's hand went limp & the baby was alone to float...a few minutes later, a wave flipped the baby over..& u can assume the rest! its so0o sad the things i've heard! they need prayer! We have a bunch of new students at my school from new orleans...they need so much!
