when people say they hate someone, i dont think they know how big of a word it is. when i tell someone i hate them, i feel weird after words, especially when i say it to family members. i think hating someone is just crazy . my mom told me she hated me once, and i went into my room and just broke down into tears. cry.gif

depends on context.

kinda of like the word love. they get thrown around so often that they're not as meaningful.

Yeah.. people use the word way too loosely. Hate to me means absolutely 0% compatibility between two people. Which I believe is impossible because someone has to have at least ONE thing in common with another. Hate is an unnecessary thing and leaves a burden on you..

usually you can tell when people are kidding, but the word is used way too losely these days to understand the full meaning of it.

I agree with that and now these days it doesnt mean that much. you can tell your parents "i hate you for not letting me do this or that", and actually you really dont hate them. you tell your friends "you didnt call me last night, you probably hate me". little things like that give the word less meaning these days, but hate is a strong word

People use the word "hate" without even meaning it.
It's mostly like a joke.
And when you mean it, it doesn't hurt that much.

Definitions of hate on the Web:

the emotion of hate; a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action
dislike intensely; feel antipathy or aversion towards; "I hate Mexican food"; "She detests politicians"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

Hate is a humorous, cynical, semi-autobiographical comic book by Peter Bagge, published by Fantagraphics Books. Beginning in 1990 and running for 30 issues, it tells the story of sleazy, disenfranchised Generation X slacker Buddy Bradley's increasingly futile search for love and happiness in modern day America - specifically Seattle and the suburbs of New Jersey.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_(comic)

Hate or hatred is an emotion of intense revulsion, distaste, enmity, or antipathy for a person, thing, or phenomenon; a desire to avoid, restrict, remove, or destroy its object.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate

Obsessive dislike accompanied by restraint and character.

hate: n. The emotion of hate; a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action. v. Dislike intensely; feel antipathy or aversion towards.

Boy, that helps. I too think it is a word that is thrown around too much, just like LOVE.

When I say I hate someone, I really do mean it. When I said I hated my sister, I did not regret one syllable and actually felt good not in a sadistic way but good in a way that I finally told her how I feel after all these years. But I don't like saying hate on people who I really don't mean it to. Sure, hate is a strong word, but just because it hurts someone doesn't give people a right to tell them not to use the word hate because that'll be like lying to your feelings (unless the person doesn't mean it). Generally I would say, "Don't say hate unless you really mean it." I don't know how to tell if a person really means it. But there are certain points in their life where someone actually and really does hate someone. If I hate someone, I hate them, no one can tell me what to feel. I know it hurts people to say that but honestly, I only say "hate" to the people who ALSO hurt me severely emotionally and physically. Make long story short, hate is something stronger than dislike that is inside everyone's hearts. It doesn't matter how innocent they are, I'm sure they hate something or SOMEONE.

What kind of girl are you? I am not trying to beg for sympathy by saying this, but things like that happen to me every day. My parents often say they wish I would die or that I'd go ahead and commit suicide and sometimes lock me out in the backyard. There are people who are suffering a lot more than you. Grow up. Don't just sit on your ass and cry.

I thought that was kind of harsh. She's not used to being hated on so give her a break. I'm sure when you first heard your family tell you they hate you felt SOMETHING. For me the most painful thing to happen is if my parents reject me because they're the people I care for the most. I'm sure she felt the same way. Some people deal with pain by crying. I do the same (but with some action).

*edit*

but I agree with robb0. People will dislike/hate you no matter what.

I'm a harsh person, but sometimes kids need tough love. We can't always treat everyone like little babies who can't handle anything. There's a lot of hate in the world. GET USED TO IT. There are so many other things you can do. Think about what you've done wrong and improve. Crying and complaining does nothing.

anyways, hate means..... for me, i think hate hate hate is a baddd harshhh word you ever can get. i feel weird and scared if someone say "i hate you" in a real way T__T; it hurts me. but when someone say "i dislike you" im fine with that lol.

Hate... it means a lot.

To me, hate doesn't mean shit. Hate me, hate you, hate him, hate her, hate that, hate food (haha never), hate whatever... It's all how you think about it and how you react to it. I don't think that its such a big word. Its just overly exaggerated, there is no way in hell that you will never feel or have hate. Its all up to you, how you take it and respond.

Hate is the opposite of love...I guess people all have different opinions of the importance of either word..and it's often said without meaning..

hate means that if the person died, you'd be happy... pure hate means that you might just be the one who killed them.
