I kinda prefer subtitle.

my experience is most dubbed versions have very annoying or exagerated voices

We have this channel over here which shows Anime 24/7, early on everything is subtitled but gradualy everything became dubbed and it was pretty terrible, shows had the same set of voices, some sounded too exagerated.

but in defence of dubbed. sometimes subtitles are too fast to read and kids might have a hard time following the story.

WHAT!? A SUBTITLED ANIME CHANNEL!? You gotta be KIDDING ME!!! like, what channel is it?? It cant be anime network cuz they show DUBBED animes 24/7. OMG i did not NOT know there was a channel like that!.

Their was over here in the Philippines, it was called Animax but that was when it first came out. Gradually after a few months of launch they dubbed everything except for a few shows they show around the 11-12 pm slot

Japanese with subtitles. When they translate it, it becomes all blah.

Subbed, definitely. Seems like the English actors try to hard.

why so much hate on dub? Sure...I much prefer subbed over dub, but dub isn't all that bad, I actually wouldn't mind watching either ways.

^Agreed. I don't really care. Even though the voices are messed up and it looks very unnatural, it's easier to understand in your own language. But Japanese is such a beautiful language and sometimes it's a lot better in Japanese + subtitles because it's the movie/show the way it was made originally (and how it's supposed to be). They really need to reconsider some of the voice actors when they decide to dub anime with english (Toboe was played by a girl huh.gif ).

I love watching Japanese with subtitles. I remember watching Cardcaptors in Japanese and I thought Kero was so much more funnier in Japanese! LOL. I guess English is okay since I've been watching anime in english for a while now since I love in Canada but yeah ... I prefer Japanese

Definately Japanese subtitled... The voice actors actually have emotion in their voices while American one's try and fail. Also, in dubs, names are pronounced horribly wrong and it pisses me off.

The only show I can happily watch in a dub is Gundam Wing. They stayed really close to the character's personalities and to the tone of the Japanese voice actor's voices.

Actually, for me, it depends soully on the anime. Sometimes it's better with subtitles like.. umm.. the Yu Yu Hakusho MOVIE, where they don't use the original voice casting and sometimes it's better in english(dubbed) because the voices fit and the anime isn't completely ruined. ~Shrugs.~ Just depends sometimes on the anime.

And as for squashie's comment.. no, it doesn't totally ruin the anime. Sometimes, yes, I will agree on sometimes, but no, not all the time. If you think so on that then you need to watch more anime, my friend.

It gives those who aren't quick enough to read subtitles the chance to know what's going on and hear it as well, so they don't have to sit and pause, read the subtitles and the play again. So it helps people like that.

Reason dubb'd anime's piss us off is because we first watch the anime in japanese and get use to their voices and notice the high pitch voices and such. so when we hear a english guy trying to replace that it makes us mad. But most of the time if you just watch a anime without watching the japanese version even once then you won't be as mad with it.

I agree. When I first started watching anime I liked the dubs better, because it's easier for me to listen to english. But after awhile you get used to hearing the Japanese. It's a completely different language with different nuances. It depends on how carefully the dubs were done. And the same goes for subbing. If you DL an anime with shitty subbing where the sentences make almost no sense because the grammar is so bad, it's just as bad as watching dubbing where the voices are all wrong. Like...The Cst Returns, I think they did fabulously with the dubbing on that one. And it doesn't matter a whole lot if you read the subtitles or watch it dubbed, because they subbed it with the same script they used when they dubbed it.

Watching it in Japanese is also good because you can audibly learn the language. I've picked up a few phrases and words here and there. I like to turn some on for my daughter and just let her watch the Japanese. She doesn't care one way or the other.

Point being: does it matter, as long as you love anime. There will always be the two ways of doing things. Who cares? Concentrate more on spreading the anime love!! lol
