I FINALLY finished my first person vexel. I did that shoe, but, eh, figured i'll try to do a person.
I think it looks alright. The picture had like no nose to it, so, that's why it may look a tad bitty bit weird. It's Reese Witherspoon. Anyways: THUMBEEDDDD! Original: ![]() Mine: ![]() Blah, you know the drill. Critique, discuss, disgust..yeah.. |

WOW. Amazingly gorgeous. I envy anyone that can do vector/vexel because I really don't understand the concept at all (

^ lmao..I dont really like her, i like some of her movies though...I just found the pic and I liked it.
The pic had like no shading..so..I was going to make it shaded myself..but I got too lazy and I wanted to finish it. -shrug- |

That's really really good, especially for it being your first. People always have problems with the nose when they first start vector/vexeling; don't worry. I'm sure you'll get better at it.

That's amazing for you first vector :flower:
I'm loving how you did the hair, it looks beautiful. Just one thing. You might want to work a bit on the shading of the skin. You can barely see any of the features due to the lack of shading. But again, that's absolutely amazing for a first vector! Keep up the awesome work. |

There aren't enough shades. Actually...you can have that many layers if you use the right amount of contrast. Right now it looks really flat. Let me explain...
If you're planning to use a few shades (maybe 3 or 4), then use more contrast between the layers. It's more realistic that way. If you're planning to do a whole bunch of shades (8-10, maybe) then use less contrast, or else, on the last layer she's gonna be black. Does that make sense? It probably doesn't make sense. But my point is, if you do a small amount of contrast on a vector with few layers, then it's going to look very flat and 2D. What level are you posterizing at? If you make it around 8-10ish, you're going to have more shades. A picture that has no shades is impossible; every person has shading. If you create more layers, it'll be more real. Just wanted to give you a useful tip, though, good job on the general shapes and shades. =] Great for a first. |

I think I posterized it at 10?
I guess the reason why I didn't want to do much shading was because on the original..it looked..orange. Like she used some really bad self tanner stuff...and I really didn't want to do that cause I knew if I did it would have turned out orange. And orange skin is just..bleh.. After not looking @ it for a while, like a day or so, I realize I should go back and darken it. ...or just leave it alone for fear i'll screw it up. ...and it does look flat. But THANKS A BUNCH! for all the tips and comments and shtuff |

its not bad.
i say its too light. try making it a bit darking on the neck so its easier to tell the chin and the neck or else it just looks like its together |

QUOTE(sprinkle-the-stars @ Sep 5 2005, 5:42 PM) I think I posterized it at 10? I guess the reason why I didn't want to do much shading was because on the original..it looked..orange. Like she used some really bad self tanner stuff...and I really didn't want to do that cause I knew if I did it would have turned out orange. And orange skin is just..bleh.. That's why I do this: I duplicate the original picture, and then grayscale it. Then posterize to about 15. That way you don't get distracted by all these weird colours. It's easier to figure out light and dark shades with black white and gray rather than reddish, yellowish, and orangey flesh tones. It shouldn't matter that, in the picture, her skin looked orange. All you're looking for is how shades are shaped on a person. One of the unwritten rules of vectoring is: Do NOT pick colours for skin from the original picture. Use a colour palette, with a bunch of colours for skin or whatever you want that look natural. There is a tutorial for that on here somewhere. It doesn't matter if the skin looked orange in the original, because you're not going to see it after anyway, right? Anyway, don't get discouraged! I'm only happy to give out some tips and tricks to make vectoring easier. I personally hate starting things over from scratch, so I'd suggest starting a new one. Keep working at it! It'll get better. If you're discouraged, check out www.vexels.net for inspiration. =] |

its pretty good, but there needs to me more shades to get her face structure, just and opinion
